Pocono Raceway announces Grand Marshals for Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 weekend

Long Pond, PA (July 30, 2010)…. This weekend’s racing  action at Pocono Raceway will consist of the star drivers of three of the nation’s top motor sports series; the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards. But before the green flag flies to start the August 1, Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500, stars of a different sort will give the command to fire the engines…10 stars in fact. Four Generals (accounting for 10 stars) from various branches of the military will serve as Co- Grand Marshals for Sunday’s Sprint Cup event.

Four star Air Force General, Roger A. Brady; three star Army Lieutenant General, William N. Phillips; two star National Guard Major General, Randall Marchi; and one star Air National Guard Brigadier General, Roy E. Uptegraff III, will give the command “Gentleman Start Your Engines” that will bring to life 43 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series  race cars. Denny Hamlin, winner of the last two Sprint Cup races at Pocono (four wins in total), will lead the stars of NASCAR’s top series in quest of his third consecutive Pocono win. Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch will be some of the drivers who will have sights set on the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 checkered flag.

Jeff Chew, Marketing Manager-NASCAR, Chevy Racing. will serve as the Grand Marshal for the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Pocono Raceway, The Pocono Mountains 125, on Saturday July 31. Defending Series Champion, Ron Hornaday Jr. heads up the list of Camping World Truck Series stars for the 1:00 PM start of the Pocono Mountains 125. Brian Holt, Director of Marketing, Weis Markets will serve as the Grand Marshal for the Weis Markets 125, ARCA Racing Series event , that will follow the Camping World Truck Series event on Saturday July 31.

Racing action begins with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck and ARCA Racing Series practice on Friday July 30. ARCA qualifying is set for 1:40PM followed by Weis Markets  Sprint Cup qualifying at 3:40PM, A final Camping World Truck Series practice session will be held after Sprint Cup Qualifying.

On Saturday July 31, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice sessions and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series qualifying set the stage for the racing double-header to follow. Children 12 and under, accompanied by a paying adult, are admitted to the grandstand free on Friday and Saturday.

Gates open at 9:00AM Sunday with pre-race activities beginning at 11:00AM all leading upto the 1:00PM start of the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500.
