The No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. Eddie Sharp Racing Toyota began the test off quick, posting the only lap to break the 31-second, 175-mph mark in the first session. Goess took 19 laps around the 1.5-mile oval in the morning.
In the afternoon, Goess continued to show speed with the third-best time of the session with a time of 31.172 seconds (173.232 mph). Steve Arpin posted the quickest time of the afternoon with a lap of 30.829 seconds (175.16 mph), but could not top Goess’ time from the first session.
Goess and ESR hope to bring the speed back to Chicagoland Speedway when the ARCA Racing Series returns for the Ansell Protective Globes 150 on Friday, August 27.
This weekend, the team will head to Springfield, Ill., to prepare for the 100-lap, 100-mile Allen Crowe 100 at the dirt track oval at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Goess, currently 10 points behind ARCA Racing Series point leader Frank Kimmel, looks to regain the point lead and drive the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. Toyota to victory lane.
