NASCAR Nationwide Series Race 16 of 35 – New Hampshire Motor Speedway

BACK IN THE SADDLE: Following a three-week hiatus as the Nationwide Series enjoyed their first stand-alone events of the 2010 season, Kevin Harvick Inc. team co-owner Kevin Harvick will return to the wheel of the No. 33 Jimmy John’s Chevrolet this week at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the running of the New England 200.

This weekend’s New England 200 will mark Harvick’s 10th Nationwide Series start at the 1.058-mile oval track. In nine previous starts, Harvick has one win, four poles, seven top-five and eight top-10 finishes. His average start is 3.1 and his average finish is 5.2. In addition, Harvick has completed 99.9 percent of laps attempted (1800 of 1801 laps) and led 588 laps. His lone Nationwide Series win came in 2007 when Harvick started the race from the pole position.

On the Cup side, Harvick has 18 starts with one win, one pole, three top-five and nine top-10 finishes. Harvick has led 318 laps on his way to completing 99 percent of laps attempted (5218 0f 5272 laps). The year prior to Harvick winning the Nationwide Series from the pole, he accomplished this same feat in Cup Series, winning the 2007 Sprint Cup Series race from the pole.

To add to his Sprint and Nationwide Series stats, Harvick also has four Truck Series starts. In those four starts, Harvick has one top-five and three top-10 finishes. Similar to his stats in the other two series, Harvick has complete 99.9 percent of laps attempted (808 of 809 laps) and led 97 laps. He has led at least one lap in every Truck Series race attempted except his first start in 1998.

BEFORE THE RACE: QUOTES WITH DRIVER KEVIN HARVICK:

What makes racing on a flat track like New Hampshire more enjoyable?

“There’s a lot of braking. You have to really work on getting your car through the center of the corner and still have the forward bite you need up off the corner so you get all three aspects of the car, the driver and the set-up all in one.”

What’s unique about New Hampshire Motor Speedway?

“It’s one of those places where you have to get through the center of the corner and get up off the corner wide open. That makes it really hard to get through the center of the corner and turn good like you need to. Getting up off the corner under full power without getting loose is really tricky. Passing is harder there than at most places because it’s so hard to make your car work getting up off the corner. That makes track position probably the most important thing at New Hampshire.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: This week the No. 33 Jimmy John’s team will unload chassis No. 058 for team co-owner Harvick. This chassis was last on track at Richmond International Raceway where Harvick finished the race seventh. Prior to Richmond, Harvick piloted this chassis at Phoenix International Raceway to a second-place finish.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: The Nationwide Series most recently made the trip north to Wisconsin for the inaugural running of the Bucyrus 200 at the 4.048-mile road course of Road America. Team co-owners Kevin and DeLana Harvick turned to four-time Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday to pilot the No. 33 Chevrolet as the Trucks had an off weekend. Climbing behind the wheel of the No. 33 car for the first time this season, Hornaday qualified 11th for the race and settled into the top 10 until midway through the race.

Contact from a competitor on lap 35 caused the No. 33 car to spin and forced Hornaday behind the wall for repairs. With quick work by the team, Hornaday returned to the track one lap down to the leaders, but a quick caution would put the team back on the lead lap. Working his way through the field, Hornaday was able to come back from the incident and finish 12th in the Bucyrus 200.
