Race Notes and Quotes

This Week’s Zaxby’s Chevrolet at Daytona … Clint Bowyer will drive Chassis No. 083 in this weekend’s Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway, the first of four races this season in which NNS teams will utilize the “New Car,” a revised chassis that is based off the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Car of Tomorrow and designed to promote safety, cost containment for race teams and better brand identity for the NASCAR Nationwide Series as a whole. Bowyer’s chassis this weekend was tested at the GM Desert Proving Grounds in Yuma, Ariz., in April and at a two-day NASCAR open test at Daytona International Speedway in May.

Defending Winner … One year ago, Bowyer found himself in Victory Lane at Daytona, starting from the pole and leading 48 of 102 laps en route to his career-first restrictor-plate victory.

By the Numbers … In 29 previous NNS starts on tracks two miles in length or greater, Bowyer has earned one win, 11 top-five finishes, 17 top-10 finishes and four poles among 217 laps led. The 2008 NNS champion boasts an average start position of 8.8 and an average finish of 11.5.

Daytona Testing … Scott Wimmer tested the No. 21 Zaxby’s Chevrolet during a two-day NASCAR test session at Daytona International Speedway on May 18 and 19. The team posted the fifth-fastest time during single-car runs during the morning session on May 18.

Double Duty … Following Friday’s Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola, Bowyer will compete in Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 powered by Coca-Cola in the No. 33 Cheerios / Hamburger Helper Chevrolet. The race airs live on TNT at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time and will be broadcast on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius XM Satellite Radio beginning at 6:30 p.m. EDT.

CLINT BOWYER QUOTES:

How will the NASCAR Nationwide Series New Car change the dynamics of Friday’s race?

“It will be interesting, that’s for sure. RCR participated in NASCAR’s open test at Daytona and learned quite a bit. The Nationwide Series is known for close competition, and I’m sure that tradition will continue, even with the new cars. I really enjoy racing at Daytona so I’m looking forward to running well in the Zaxby’s Chevrolet.”
