NEWTON, Iowa (August 1, 2010) - Making the trip from Pocono (Pa.) Raceway to Iowa Speedway, Kevin Harvick arrived in time to secure the seventh starting position for the No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Jimmy John’s Chevrolet, and after spending the entire race in the top eight, scored a second-place finish.

“We took the gamble and came up one spot short,” said Harvick following the race. “Our only shot at the win was to take two tires and put some cars between us (Kyle Busch). We did that, but didn’t anticipate Kyle passing all the cars on one lap. I have to thank David Mayhew for practicing the car and Ernie Cope and all the guys for their hard work and setting up a really good, solid car.”

Starting the day in Pennsylvania for Sprint Cup Series practice at Pocono Raceway, Harvick arrived in Iowa in time to qualify for the U.S. Cellular 250 and make his first laps in the car, earning the seventh starting position for the 250-lap event. Getting the race started, competition was slowed on lap one for the first caution after a multi-car accident. Harvick restarted seventh on lap six and maintained his position as he began fighting a loose-handling car.

Continuing to fight loose conditions and telling crew chief Ernie Cope that he needed to enter the corners better, the caution flag waved on lap 42, giving the team the opportunity to adjust on the No. 33 car. Following a brief red flag for clean-up, the team pitted on lap 45 for four tires, fuel and an air-pressure adjustment. Gaining spots on pit road, Harvick radioed the team that they did a good job as he restarted the race on lap 48 from the fifth position.

Back to green-flag racing, Harvick quickly radioed Cope that the changes had not helped, but in fact made the car looser. As the race continued, the condition of the car also changed and by lap 90, running fourth, Harvick radioed the team that the car was now tight in the middle of the turns, but that his takeoff on the restarts needed help. The team began devising a plan for the next round of pit stops. Several laps later on lap 93, the caution flag was again waved for a multi-car accident, and following the second red flag of the race for clean-up, the team pitted on lap 95. With another solid stop on pit road, the team changed four tires with an air-pressure adjustment, made a wedge adjustment and added fuel. Harvick restarted fourth on lap 98 and took over third on lap 100.

Slipping a few positions, Harvick was fifth on lap 105 when the caution flag waved. Harvick radioed the team that the car took off much better and the call was made to stay out on track. Restarting the race on lap 110 from fifth, Harvick began to pick off the cars in front of him, moving into second on lap 140 behind eventual race winner Kyle Busch.

Starting to get a little tight in the center and off the corners, Harvick maintained his position in second and on the lap 161 caution, opted to come down pit road for four tires, an air-pressure adjustment and fuel. Restarting the race on lap 166 in second behind Busch, the two immediately began to pull away from the field.

On lap 205, the final caution of the race waved and taking a gamble to contend for the win, the team came down pit road for two right-side tires, an air-pressure and wedge adjustment and fuel. Harvick restarted the race on lap 208 as the leader. Holding off Busch who had four fresh tires, Harvick relinquished the lead on lap 226. Unable to close back in on Busch as he pulled away from the field, Harvick radioed the team that the car was a little tight in the middle and loose off the corners. Harvick finished the race second as Busch went on to win his ninth Nationwide Series race of the season, followed by Jason Leffler in third, Brad Keselowski in fourth and rookie Trevor Bayne in fifth.
