NASCAR will cut the purses of its second-tier Nationwide Series by 20 percent next season.

It’s the second consecutive year the purse will be reduced in Nationwide. NASCAR also cut the purses in the premiere Sprint Cup Series before this season.

NASCAR officials say they are reducing the purses to make hosting Nationwide races more profitable for track operators. Although Nationwide has a 35-race schedule this year, the second-tier series only has 34 events currently slotted for next season.

NASCAR is making an overall effort to give the second-tier Nationwide Series its own identity, and is considering not allowing Sprint Cup regulars to race for the championship next season.

Since Bristol raised their “Busch” tickets a few years ago because NASCAR raised the “Busch” race purses, shouldn’t they reduce the Nationwide ticket prices now that the purses have been reduced?
