DARNELL MAKING START WITH NO. 16 TEAM –
Erik Darnell will make his debut with the No. 16 Nationwide Series team this weekend in the Scotch-Brite/3M Ford Mustang. This is Darnell’s first race for Roush Fenway Racing since the season finale last year at Homestead Miami Speedway. Darnell will also participate in the Nationwide events at Dover International Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway later this season.
DARNELL CAREER STATS - In 17 Nationwide Series starts, Darnell has two top-five and five top-10 finishes with one pole award. Prior to that, Darnell spent three full seasons in the Camping World Truck Series amassing 76 starts with two wins, 16 top-fives, 32 top-10s and three pole awards.
3M TO FEATURE THREE BRANDS WITH DARNELL - A primary sponsor in both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series for Roush Fenway Racing, 3M is bringing three of its brands on board the No. 16 for Darnell’s three races with distinct paint schemes: “Scotch-Brite” cleaning products will be featured at Richmond, “Post-It” products at Dover and “Ace” brand bandages at Texas.
DARNELL AT RICHMOND – Darnell has made two Nationwide Series starts at Richmond International Raceway, both of them last season. In those starts, Darnell recorded an average start of 22.5 and an average finish
of 13.0.
LOOKING FOR LUCK WITH NUMBER SEVEN – Between his time at both Baker Curb Racing and now Roush Fenway Racing, crew chief Rick Viers has had the opportunity to work with six different drivers this season (Greg
Biffle, Johnny Sauter, Scott Wimmer, Colin Braun, Brian Ickler, Matt Kenseth) and this weekend, Darnell will make number seven. He has gotten as close as second with Biffle, but is still looking for that elusive win in 2010.
ROUSH FENWAY RACING AT RICHMOND - In 75 Nationwide Series starts at Richmond International Raceway, Roush Fenway Racing has nine wins, 36 top-fives, 49 top-10s, three pole awards and 2069 laps led. The wins
were tallied by Mark Martin (4), Carl Edwards (3) and Jeff Burton (2).
RICHMOND CHASSIS SELECTION – Crew chief Rick Viers has selected RK-540 for this weekend’s Richmond 250 at Richmond International Raceway. This is a brand new car and will see its first competitive laps this
weekend.
Darnell, on getting to run with the No. 16 team in Richmond:
“This is a really great opportunity for me to come to Richmond this weekend and work with the No. 16 team. It’s my first time to work with Rick [Viers], but he has done a lot of good things with this team this season and I’m anxious to see what we can do this weekend. 3M has been such a great sponsor to Roush Fenway Racing and I’m very grateful to them for coming on board and giving me the chance to participate in these three races in 2010. I’m hopeful we can bring
home a good solid finish, if not end up in victory lane with them.”
Crew chief Rick Viers, on working with Darnell in Richmond:
“We had a really great weekend with Matt [Kenseth] last weekend in Atlanta and the team is excited to keep the ball rolling this weekend with Erik [Darnell] in the car. We had a really productive test with him a few weeks ago at Gresham Speedway in this new Scotch-Brite/3M Mustang. We have moved back up to within 15 points of 15th spot in the
owner’s point standings and I believe this is the weekend we could finally make that jump.”
