Bayne, who is seventh in the Nationwide Series standings, said Saturday morning that he hopes to know by Tuesday his plans for the rest of the year and next year.
“I don’t really know what’s happening,” Bayne said prior to qualifying for the Dover 200 today at Dover International Speedway. “It’s kind of up in the air. I wish I knew. I’d like to know what’s happening. … Even this week was up in the air. It’s really a frustrating waiting game.”
The 19-year-old Bayne wants to drive full time in the Nationwide Series next year and his current team has no sponsorship for him solidified for next year. Bayne is in his first full season in the Nationwide Series and has nine top-10 finishes, including eight top-10s in his last 13 races.
“It’s a weird situation to be in because I never saw it coming,” Bayne said. “It’s a waiting game to see what’s going to happen in the next couple of days. If anything does happen, it is strictly based on the economy and sponsorship. It’s not because we don’t want to be working together.”
