Sport Clips Team Notes of Interest
· Joey Logano will make his third-career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Kansas Speedway this weekend for the Kansas Lottery 300. In his two previous starts, Logano finished in the top 10 in both events including last year’s trip to victory lane. Logano only led for four laps, but it was the final lap that counted as he drove the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing entry to victory lane after passing teammate Kyle Busch.
· Welcome back Sport Clips! Sport Clips will be the primary sponsor for the fourth and final time this season of the No. 20 Nationwide Toyota and Logano this weekend. Sport Clips is a national sport-themed hair-care franchise for men and boys that can be found in 38 states. Founded in 1995, the company has over 700 stores nationwide. Sport Clips was the primary sponsor on the No. 20 car at Phoenix International Raceway, Charlotte Motor Speedway and Daytona International Speedway. Logano has finished sixth, 13th and 10th when driving the black and red Sport Clips car.
· Success breeds confidence – so it’s no wonder Logano loves to drive in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. The 20-year-old has competed in 19 races in the NNS this season and completed every lap of competition. In addition to that, he has only finished out of the top 10 once in those 19 starts. He has accumulated five pole positions (most recently at Dover International Speedway last weekend), one win and 10 top-five finishes of which six of those were runner-up finishes.
· Logano sits 10th in the Nationwide Series standings despite only running only 19 of 28 races this season. The No. 20 team however sits fourth in the Series Owners standings with its Joe Gibbs Racing stable mate the No. 18 team leading the standings.
· Logano will participate in the Tom Murphy Memorial Golf Classic on Thursday on behalf of Sprint, which has raised nearly $4 million for charity. The tournament will be played at The National Golf Club of Kansas City, located in Parkville, Mo. Net proceeds from the tournament will benefit several charities including the American Red Cross, Victory Junction Kansas City and the NASCAR Foundation.
· The Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway will begin on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. ET on will be aired live on ESPN2 Television and MRN Radio.
Logano Discusses Racing at Kansas Speedway:
“You always look forward to going back to a track where you’ve won at, and I’m ready to get back into victory lane. These second-place finishes are getting a little tough to swallow. Not that I’m complaining, but to keep getting so close gets a little frustrating. The team does a great job in the pits and adjusting on the car, we are just that close. Last year we didn’t lead a ton of laps, but the car was good enough at the end to pass Kyle and win.
“This weekend is the final race with Sport Clips on the car for the season. I know it would mean a lot to them and their employees to put on a good show and get them a win. Denny got them a pole in the Cup car in Atlanta, so hopefully we can do one better and get them into victory lane in Kansas.”
