While there have been many questions why Trevor Bayne decided to move from Diamond-Waltrip Racing to Roush Fenway Racing, it seemed pretty simple in the mind of the 19-year-old racer.

“I’m a race-car driver, and I like to drive race cars and Roush Fenway is making the commitment to do that for me,” Bayne said Saturday prior to the Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway. “I had that where I was before, but we weren’t going to be able to run full-time next year the way it stood at the current date and they couldn’t take the option, so I had to find somewhere that could.”

Wearing a Roush Fenway Racing driver suit, Bayne was driving the No. 17 car this weekend at Kansas. All he knows is he will be in a Roush Fenway car the rest of this year and full-time next year.

“As of Wednesday, I didn’t have a ride and I ended up in the 17 car,” Bayne said. “So I don’t know what the plans are as far as numbers go, but I’m pretty sure we’re going to run the rest of the season.”
