Homestead, FL (November 20, 2010)— The Hefty® Racing™ Team started the final race weekend of 2010 on a positive note by qualifying in the 29th position. However, the team was involved in a two-car accident on lap 41, which resulted in a 37th-place finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

After taking the green flag from the 29th position, Eric McClure slid back to the 36th position as the car’s handling was “extremely loose.” The chance to pacify the car’s handling came on lap 10 when the event’s first caution flag was displayed, allowing the team to service the No. 24 Ford with track bar and wedge adjustments and fuel. Upon completion, McClure was scored in the 33rd position on the lap 14 restart.

Over the next seven laps, the Hefty® Odor Block® Ford maintained its position, despite some loss of front grip on the exit of the turns. The car’s handling on entrance, however, had improved slightly, so when the event’s second caution flag waved on lap 21, McClure once again brought his car to pit road for a minor adjustment. The call was made for four scuffed tires, fuel, and an additional wedge adjustment. In spite of losing two positions on pit road for the lap 27 restart, the adjustments made seemed to improve the car’s overall handling, with McClure informing his crew chief, “I could use a little more of that.” Two laps later, the event’s third caution flag waved for a four car incident allowing the team to make an additional wedge adjustment to the Hefty® Odor Block Ford.

On the lap 36 restart McClure missed a shift and lost five positions to settle in the 33rd spot. Five laps later, McClure was tagged while passing the No. 88 car, which was involved in an altercation earlier in the event, and sent hard into the turn two wall. As a result, McClure brought his damaged car to the garage area on lap 41 where he would be credited with a 37th-place finish in the Ford 300. This was only the second event in 2010 that the TRM team was not running at the finish

“I am disappointed with how today ended. We were fortunate enough to make today’s race but unfortunately it was cut short when we got hit by the 88. Our car was getting better and I felt like we would have been able to secure a decent finish had we not been wrecked but that’s about how our season went this year. We appreciate the Hefty® brand’s support of our program this year and look forward to Daytona in February. I am ready to enjoy the off-season and get some family time.”
