SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway will host an open test session and Media Day on Saturday, March 6, weather permitting.

The event is being held one week before the green flag will fall for the start of the 2010 campaign at America’s Hometown Track.

Registration for the daylong event will begin at 9 a.m. and practice sessions for all of South Boston Speedway’s divisions will be held from 10 a.m. until noon and from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. A lunch break will be held from noon until 1 p.m.

“We are getting extremely excited about the new season and we know our competitors are looking forward to it as well,” South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice said. “This open test day should be beneficial to all of our competitors.”

Grandstand gates will be open for the test session for the public with no admission charge. Race fans are invited to come out and get an early look at some of the competition that will be touring the four-tenths mile asphalt oval this season.

The first race of the season will be held on Saturday, March 13, and will feature a special afternoon starting time. The initial event of the action-packed campaign will feature twin races for the Late Model Stock Car Division, as well as action for the Limited Sportsman Division, Budweiser Pure Stock Division and Southern Vintage Modifieds.

Afternoon starting times will also be held for events at South Boston Speedway on March 20 and April 3. The first race under the lights this season is slated for April 17.

Season tickets for the 19 events on the 2010 schedule at South Boston Speedway are currently on sale for only $150. Tickets can be purchased at the speedway office.

In addition to hosting racing action throughout the season for the Late Model Stock Car Division, Limited Sportsman Division, Budweiser Pure Stock Division and Southern Vintage Modifieds, American’s Hometown Track will also once again feature several special events in 2010.

The April 3 event will be a doubleheader featuring the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

On June 12, the USARacing Pro Cup Series, formerly known as the Hooters Pro Cup Series, will visit South Boston Speedway for the first of two events at the track in 2010. The series will also return for its second consecutive championship event on Nov. 6.

South Boston Speedway’s annual Fireworks Extravaganza will be staged on Friday, July 2, along with a 200-lap race for the Late Model Stock Car Division, a 100-lap shootout for the Limited Sportsman Division and a 50-lap clash for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Other special events slated in 2010 include a visit from the PASS Super Late Model Series on Aug. 28, and the annual South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 on Oct. 16, which annually attracts the best Late Model drivers throughout the region.
