Zach Germain Ready for K&N Pro Series East Debut in the No. 24 Germain.com Camry in Saturday’s Season Opener at Greenville-Pickens
Press ReleaseMooresville, N.C. (March, 22, 2010) – Germain Racing’s newest rookie driver, Zach Germain, will drive the No. 24 Germain.com Camry in Saturday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season opener at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, SC. The race marks a series debut both for Germain Racing and it’s rookie driver. Germain and the crew have logged many laps of testing in preparation for the 150 lap event.
“In the past week, I’ve driven on three very different short tracks and I’ve had the opportunity to drive the Germain.com Camry as well as the Germain.com Tundra. What I’ve learned about the different tracks, vehicles and tires should help us with our team goal to complete every lap this season,” explained the 25 year-old rookie of the year contender who moved into the Germain Racing shop in January in order to be completely immersed in developing his racing career.
Living in a one-room efficiency at Germain Racing has allowed the young driving talent to spend countless hours working at the race shop, learning more about the race cars and receiving a wealth of knowledge from fellow Germain Racing drivers and crew chiefs. The availability of so many resources has made the transition from his hometown of Columbus, OH, to living and racing out of Mooresville, N.C., highly rewarding for Zach while letting his parents, Steve and Kim Germain, know their son has made a ‘good move.’
“Zach is getting a lot of guidance and coaching which is something he really appreciates and needs,” explains his mother, Kim, who says that Zach is definitely the ‘racer’ of the family. “There’s no question that of our three children, Zach is the one I’d say would be most likely to become a race car driver. He has always been very competitive in sports and in school.”
For his part, Zach, a 2007 Miami University graduate, concedes that his sister, Jessica, 28, could probably beat him in golf—but that is it. Zach’s brother, Austin, 20, is currently a student at Miami; Jessica works as an attorney in Columbus.
Zach has a history of scholastic achievement and fierce sports competition. This makes it easy to see why he is so studious in his approach to learning all he can about racing in the K&N Pro Series East. Zach has watched hours of race tapes and read pages of statistics in preparation for his series debut.
“No driver completed all the laps in the series last year, and at Greenville, a lead-lap finish was basically a top-ten finish. The K&N Pro Series East statistics show what everyone in racing already knows—it is a very competitive NASCAR division. For our team to meet our goal of completing every lap in the Germain.com Camry would be a huge accomplishment,” explained Zach.
Steve Germain, president of Germain Motor Company and an owner of Germain Racing, has watched his son progress from Legends racing to the Germain.com Camry. He is impressed with what Zach and the crew, led by Mike Abner, have accomplished in the off-season.
“I was listening to Zach over the radio at the Greenville test and realized that ‘I was listening to a race car driver.’ He was giving great feedback and communicating well with Mike and the crew. As a parent, it was a special moment to hear Zach doing well with his career and as a team owner, it made me very confident that Zach and the Germain.com Camry crew are building the groundwork for Zach to continue to grow as a race car driver,” said Steve.
Zach Germain races the Germain.com Camry Saturday, March 27th, at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. The race will air on SPEED, Thursday, April 1st at 6 PM ET.
Germain Racing is a championship-winning organization competing in all three of NASCAR’s national series. The team adds the K&N Pro Series East No. 24 Germain.com Camry to its lineup this year, and may add K&N Pro Series West and late model races. Sponsorship and branding opportunities are available.
