CONCORD,NC (April 26, 2010) – Trying to dethrone Tim Russell in the world of Florida Super Late Model racing these days has been pretty much an exercise in futility. The second-generation driver is having a career year just four months into the 2010 season. He entered this past weekend with four victories to his credit this season and enjoyed a streak of three-in-a-row. He extended that streak to four-in-a-row this past weekend – to nobody’s surprise.

Russell continue his winning ways at New Smyrna Speedway and captured the Billie Harvey Memorial for the second straight year. Russell managed to keep his win streak alive, but it was an eventful night with several twist and turns before Russell took the checkered flag.

“It means a lot to win this race for the second straight year,” said Russell. “It’s cool to win this race two out of the three years they have had it. From what my dad tells me, Billie Harvey was a great guy. He would have given you the shirt off his back if you needed it. So it was great to honor his family with a victory.”

Russell worked his way to the lead early in the race only to surrender it to Jeff Choquette around halfway. Under a caution period, track officials found that Choquette was leaking oil and his night was cut short. Russell took the lead again only to trade the top spot with Wayne Anderson. Once Russell got the top spot back, he had to fight off several hard challenges over a few restarts to score the victory.

“They called Choquette and I down pit road to see who was leaking oil,” said Russell. “I knew it wasn’t us, but waiting for them to check us was a little nerve-racking. We had a bunch of restarts with about 20 laps to go and three different drivers lined up against me each time. I had to change my restarts around to make sure we didn’t get repetitive and we were able to pull it off.”

The win marks Russell’s fifth of the season and his fourth win in a row. Russell has won several races in the past, but this has been perhaps his most successful season yet.

“It has been a great year for us we just want to keep things going,” added Russell. “We are planning some bigger races outside of Florida when we get the funding all lined up.”

Tim Russell will return to action on Saturday, May 15th at Desoto Super Speedway in Bradenton, Florida for a 100-lap Super Late Model event. Russell will be going for a fifth straight win in Super Late Model competition.
