Wausau, WI April 30th, 2010 – Chris Wimmer prepares for the Joe Shear Classic 136 and the ASA Midwest Tour opener Sunday at Madison International Raceway. “I’m just really excited to get the season started,” says Wimmer, “I’ve been working on the car for a few months now and I’m just ready to get to the track and start the 2010 season.”

Wimmer experienced recent success at MIS; last year, in a non-ASAMT event, he passed Matt Kenseth in the final laps of the Wisconsin All-Star Challenge for his second win of the year. “My car was really good there for that race,” says Wimmer, “of course it’s a different year and the conditions won’t be exactly the same, but I hope my set-up will be close and I’ll be able to run up front.”

After a fourth place finish in ASA Midwest Tour points two years ago, Wimmer cracked the
top three last year and was in the hunt for the championship through the final race at Oktoberfest. With one win, six top-five finishes and eight top-ten finished in 2009, Wimmer hopes to pick up from where he left off and compete for a championship once again. “Winning the point championship is a definitely a goal I have this year,” says Wimmer, “As cliché as it sounds, you just have to take it one race at a time, and it all starts Sunday in Madison.”

For those who cannot make the ASAMT opener, for the first time this year, you will be able to watch select ASAMT races in tape delay fashion on FS North and FS Wisconsin. The Joe Shear Classic will air on Saturday, May 15th. “This TV deal is really neat,” says Wimmer, “As of right now I think at least five races will be shown in tape delay on FSN. It’s great for us as drivers to have that exposure and it’s also great for our sponsors who will receive more coverage. I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Wimmer would like to thank some sponsors who have come on board early in the 2010 season. Heinrich Landscaping, Leo’s Upper Dells Bar, All Star Performance, Wiley X, Autometer, Philly’s Subs and Gyros, Racing Electronics, Nelson Repair LLC of Lodi, WI and Wimmer Suspension will all be seen on the #52 Chevy for the opener and Madison, and throughout the year.

The ASAMT cars will be on the track Saturday for an open practice. Qualifying begins at 1pm Sunday afternoon with racing set to start at 3pm. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
