Overcoming Engine Miss, Casey Wyatt Brings Home a Top 10 in his Season Opening Event
Press ReleaseNewport News, VA- This past Saturday Casey Wyatt and his crew returned to Late Model Stock Car competition at Langley Speedway knowing that they had to find the “gremlin” living in the engine of their Chevy Monte Carlo’s powerhouse. Testing throughout the week had been frustrating as the team struggled to find the source of an engine miss that no one could figure out.
Pre-race test sessions proved to be just as challenging when the miss persisted. Car owner Wayne Wyatt and crew worked effortlessly all day changing carburetors, ignition coils, and rechecking wiring before Casey made his qualifying effort. Without testing the changes, Casey pulled off a strong run with a time of 16.189, just .144 seconds behind the pole sitter. This would land him in the 11th starting position; but the miss was still present.
During the nights early events, the team continued to work hoping to eradicate the problem. Before driver introductions, the crew wrapped up last minute attempts to clear up the miss, which included dropping the fuel cell and inspecting all of its seals and lines.
Casey took to the track and immediately commented on the radio, “It’s still missing.” With instructions to do with it what he could, he came to the green flag with a strong and clean start. On lap 22, the field had settled out and Casey was setting his sights on the ninth place car, held his line and cleared the 8th place car by lap 24. Lap 84 brought the final pass for Casey of the evening. When the checkers waved, he crossed the line 7th in his first race of the season; which ran green from the green to the checkers. Post race Casey expressed that the miss never cleared up but his car handled beautifully; which afforded him the opportunity to advance his position.
The Crossroads Fuels Late Models have the weekend off May 18th, so the team will be working hard to get to the bottom of engine problem that is plaguing them. Casey is optimistic that once the motor issue is resolved he will have a better shot at competing for a win.
