John Gibson, driver of the #13 MitiGator / Spray Paint and Equipment / RF85 Ford Fusion held on to a top ten finish, bringing home 8th place in the May 29th running of the USAR Pro Cup event at Langley Speedway despite transmission problems. “We weren’t too terribly bad when we first got on the track but the transmission seal broke during our first practice,” said John. “Unfortunately we did not have a spare seal, and neither did anyone else.

Thankfully J.P. Morgan loaned us a transmission, and that let us compete, but it took all of second practice to change out the transmission. That meant we really didn’t get the opportunity to dial in the car prior to the race, and at a track like Langley, that’s crucial.” John qualified the MitiGator Ford Fusion in 9th place for the event. “We made a lot of changes after the second practice, before qualifying, not quite knowing how those changes would work out, and those changes did help, but we started the race still needing to dial in the car.

That’s not a great position to be in. We needed some early cautions so we could come in and work on the car, but we just couldn’t catch a caution when we needed it.”John was fortunate to finish the race in eighth place. “Once again I have to say thanks to my crew for hanging in there on a difficult night. They are the best,” said John. “I also have to say thanks to J.P. Morgan for loaning us the transmission, and to Tyler Young’s team, as they were prepared to loan us one as well.” The next race on the USAR schedule is South Boston Speedway in South Boston, VA on Saturday June 12th.

The Gibson Motorsports team has secured partial sponsorship from MitiGator but is in need of additional funding for the South Boston race as well as the remainder of the 2010 season.
