Bryan Ortiz, BD Racing with Sterling Marlin Set for Short Track Challenge at Springport
Press Release“Puerto Rican carries momentum from Rockingham to Michigan 200″
San Juan, PR (June 1, 2010) … Fresh from his second-place finish at the
Rockingham Speedway on May 14th,

Sterling Marlin now set their sights on the Michigan 200 this weekend.
The third race on the 2010 Sunoco National Tour schedule will be a
200-lap event at the .375-mile high-banked oval Springport Motor
Speedway in Michigan.
Ortiz, the 21-year old developmental driver signed by Sterling Marlin,
will be making his first-ever visit to Springport Motor Speedway and
only his third career start in a stock car. The former kart champion
and Grand Am Rolex Series Koni Challenge competitor moved to the stock
cars ranks this season to race in the Sunoco National Tour. And, if his
first two races are any indication, Ortiz is on the fast track to
success. The talented Puerto Rican driver finished third at New Smyrna
(FL) Speedway and second at Rockingham (NC) in his initial two starts
in the series. However, the Springport Motor Speedway presents a
different challenge for Ortiz and BD racing with Sterling Marlin.
Ortiz was able to use racing video games and the internet to “practice”
at both New Smyrna and Rockingham before actually driving the tracks.
He will not have that advance training going into Springport this
Saturday.
“I haven’t been able to find anything useful for this track,” Ortiz
commented. “But, I’ve watched tracks similar to Springport that may be
helpful to understand the racing at short tracks like this one.”
“Even though I’ve never been at any of these tracks, I just feel so
comfortable with the team,” Ortiz added. “The whole BD Racing with
Sterling Marlin group gives me a great Chevrolet Camaro every race and
I have the opportunity to be in the front. That’s why we’ve enjoyed
success thus far even with no experience on my part. Hopefully, I can
continue to learn, get more experience, and finish first soon.”
BD Racing with Sterling Marlin will have the support of Organization
Consulting Group and Nova Derm Dermaestetic and Laser Center on his
Chevrolet Camaro for the Michigan 200.
Ortiz enters the Michigan 200 at the Springport Motor Speedway as the
leader in the Sunoco National Tour Rookie-of-the-Year standings. He
holds a 19-point advantage over Joey Gase. Currently, Ortiz is second
in overall Sunoco National Tour Championship points after two events,
trailing leader Brent Downey by only five points.
