Ambrose Getting Down and Dirty at Eldora Speedway before Cleaning Up with Clorox at Michigan
Press Release
“This is something I’ve been waiting on for months,” Ambrose said. “I’m so grateful Tony Stewart invited me for a second year in a row. To be invited is a really big deal because some of the best drivers in the world are racing in the Prelude tonight.”
The Clorox Company returns to JTG Daugherty Racing’s No. 47 Toyota Camry this weekend. Ambrose is proud to carry the prominent cleaning agent on his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series entry that is used in an estimated eight out of ten American households and sold in more than 100 countries in the world.
“The Clorox brand disinfecting bleach has been around since 1913,” Ambrose said. “For nearly 100 years, Clorox has been used to kill germs in hospitals, child-car centers, schools restaurants, my home and much more. I’m proud to carry their brand on our Toyota this weekend. I’ll definitely be using a lot of their product after running on dirt at Eldora tonight.”
Ambrose boards a plane this afternoon for Ohio to race in the sixth annual Prelude that is Tony Stewart’s brainchild. Tonight, the Australian driver straps into his No. 47 Bush’s Baked Beans/Kingsford/Little Debbie dirt Late Model stock car for his second attempt at bragging rights at the one-half mile clay oval owned by Stewart. Last year, Stewart showed several NASCAR stars and other elite drivers how it’s done on dirt by winning his charity event.
This year the 2010 Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream is team driven and Ambrose is on Team Levine along with Dave Blaney, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Travis Pastrana, David Reutimann and team captain Kyle Busch. There are a total of four teams representing four children’s hospitals and each individual driver’s finishing position in the feature will contribute to each team’s total score. The four children’s hospitals being supported are: Cincinnati Children’s, Levine Children’s Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Also, an individual champion will be crowned.
“Our Bush’s Baked Beans/Kingsford/ Little Debbie team is representing Levine Children’s Hospital,” Ambrose said. “The Prelude is for such a great cause and Tony Stewart and his staff have poured a lot of time into this event. I can’t wait.”
No. 47 Clorox Toyota Camry crew chief Frank Kerr will be joining his driver to coach him along.
“I have won four or five championships at Eldora, so I can’t wait to get back there and watch Marcos,” Kerr said. “This is really only his second time on dirt in a big race like this. He adapted so fast to the car last year. I think he’ll do well and I’m anxious to watch him.”
On Thursday, Ambrose, Kerr and possibly Stewart will head over to Fremont Speedway to take some laps on dirt behind the wheel of winged sprint cars for fun. Kerr, who won four championships on the All Star Circuit of Champions, is a seven-time winner at Fremont Speedway and is ready to get back behind the wheel to take some hot laps around the one-third mile clay oval.
“Marcos, Trevor Bayne and I went last year and we really had a blast thanks to a few teams who provided cars for us,” Kerr said. “Fremont is very dear to me and my family. It’s where I spent many years racing. It’s a pretty special place and it means a lot that Marcos is going back there with me.”
Friday it is back to business as usual as Marcos tackles Michigan International Speedway.
“Michigan hasn’t been good to us,” Ambrose said. “We’re taking a brand new car this time. We’ve ran decent there, but the results do not show our performance. We’re looking to change that this weekend with the No. 47 Clorox Toyota Camry.”
“We’ve had so much bad luck this year, but we feel like good things are around the corner,” Kerr added. “Unfortunately, this bad luck goes all the way back to Homestead-Miami Speedway when Marcos broke a mirror during practice. He passed Jimmie Johnson for the lead there and was pulling away when the car broke. We keep teasing him and telling him that the bad luck is all his fault because he broke the mirror. Hopefully, there won’t be seven years of it.”
Live coverage from Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, June 13th begins at 1 p.m. ET on TNT and MRN.
Tonight the Prelude to the Dream will be televised on HBO Pay-Per-View at 7 PM Eastern. The Countdown Show will be televised on SPEED Channel beginning at 6 PM Eastern. To find out how to order, please visit http://www.preludetothedream.org/how-to-order/.
