Chris Wimmer Keeps Rolling in ASA Midwest Tour
Press Release
just hope we can keep it up.”
Wimmer qualified 7th for the 100-lap Elmer Musgrave Memorial and began the race from
that same position. Within the first 20 laps Wimmer worked his way up in to the top
three and by lap 30 moved pass Boris Jurkovic to take over the second position. For the
final 70 laps Wimmer hunted down leader Steve Carlson, but wasn’t able to close the
gap substantially. A competition caution with 25 laps to go allowed Wimmer to restart
right behind Carlson, but Carlson’s #66 was able to pull away again and Wimmer held
steady for a second place finish. “This was a track I struggled at last year,” says Wimmer,
“Honestly I was really hoping to come out of here with a top 10 or top 5 finish. It’s always bitter sweet to finish second, but I’m very pleased with our run.”
Despite the fact that Carlson took the checkered flag, Wimmer continues to hold on to
the ASAMT point lead, this time by 12 points. “It’s nice to start the season off so well,”
says Wimmer, “It’s hard not to pay attention to the points, but that’s what I’m trying to
do. There’s a bunch of talented drivers in this series and Carlson, who’s right behind
me, is on a roll too.”
Next up for Wimmer and the ASAMT is the Swiss Colony All Star Challenge 100 with
Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart. Last year Wimmer passed NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth
in the closing laps to win this very race. “Madison is a track I really like and I usually
race pretty well at,” says Wimmer, “Last year it was awesome to win this race, especially
passing Matt at the end. I’m excited they’ve made this a Tour race and I’m looking
forward to Tuesday.”
The Swiss Colony All Star Challenge is Tuesday, June 29th at Madison International Speedway. The race will also be televised on FSN on Saturday, July 10th at 11:30am
