“After Five Straight Wins, Podium Finishes Were Not Enough for Russell; Scores Seventh Win of 2010″

CONCORD,NC (July 19, 2010) – Most drivers wouldn’t mind a few races’ worth of second- and third-place finishes in the tough Super Late Model scene of Florida over recent weeks. But Tim Russell doesn’t just settle for podium finishes, especially after having scored five-straight and six overall victories in the first half of the 2010 season.

Russell’s last few trips to the racetrack have resulted in strong, but not strong enough for him, finishes of second and third. That’s why getting back into victory lane for the seventh time in 2010 on July 17th at Auburndale Speedway felt just a little bit sweeter than the previous six wins; it brought the non-win “slump” to a triumphant end.

“All my guys have been working hard, but I guess you can say we’ve been on a little slump,” said Russell. “But, seconds and thirds lately aren’t too bad, it’s just that after you win five in a row you don’t want to get off that pace. It was good to get back on track and hopefully we can get a bunch more wins now before the year’s over.”

Russell proved to be the fastest man at the quarter-mile Auburndale Speedway from the time he arrived at the bullring and never let up until the $3,000 winner’s paycheck was in his hand.

“The car was real fast right off the trailer. We were fastest in practice, went out and set on the pole. I pulled the ‘five pill’ for the invert, but I was able to get up into the lead on lap 35 and went on from there.

“I just had to hit my marks and do what we had to do to win the race. I was able to stretch my lead out by a few car-lenghths on the last few restarts late in the race. I just had to be on my toes and hit my marks and I was able to keep the guy who’s really good there, Daniel Webster, behind me and held on.”

With a seventh win on the scoreboard for Russell in 2010, an opportunity to continue a brand new win streak comes this Saturday, July 24th at New Smyrna Speedway (FL), where he already has two victories in 2010.

But, as much as winning would mean to Russell, he is also keeping the big picture, winning the Governor’s Cup at New Smyrna this November.

“It’s a little 50-lapper out there this week and we’ll try some stuff out for the Governor’s Cup later in the year. We’ll give up the 50-lappers if we have to in order to try some stuff for the big race at the end of the year.

“But, we always want to win, too.”
