Jorge Arteaga, NASCAR Mexico’s “Most Popular Driver 2009″, made his US Debut this past Friday at Lee USA Speedway in New Hampshire, where he collected his first Top 10 finish in the K&N Pro Series.

Jorge qualified 15th Friday afternoon and took the green flag at roughly 8:30 pm Friday night, quickly to make his presence known. By lap 66 he was solidly entrenched in the Top 10, never leaving it for the remainder of the race. On lap 108 he was sitting 6th and waiting patiently for an opportunity to take away the 5th spot when the caution flag was waved for an incident in turn 2.

Arteaga lost a spot on the restart and was running 7th when on lap 116 a multi-car pileup caused officials to wave the red flag. After an extensive cleanup the track went green again on lap 122. Arteaga took the green flag and charged through the field fighting for an elusive Top 5 when on the final lap he tangled with another competitor half way through turns 3 and 4, knocking them both out of contention for the Top 5 and relegating Jorge to a 10th place finish, still an excellent result for his debut run.

Jorge comments on the race, “It was a great race. I had lots of fun and really learned a lot. I’m only sorry to have been involved in the last lap incident because it cost both of us a better finish. The 18 had left the door open going into 3, so I came in, but as I got to his door mid way through the turn he started to come down to try to protect his spot but I was already in too deep and we tangled. It’s unfortunate for both of us, but I am still happy with the experience I gained as well as being able to pull out a Top 10 for my sponsors, Red Baron, La Huerta, Pennzoil and International Pro Series.”

Carlos Contreras was also on hand to help his NASCAR Mexico driver in any way he could. Contreras comments, “It was an exciting race with lots of side by side racing. The track was great and TW Motorsports did a great job with the car. Jorge showed patience when he needed to and also even a bit of aggression. He really did a great job, by far surpassing our goals for his first the event.”

Arteaga continues, “I want to thank my sponsors, Troy Williams of TW Motorsports, Fred Wanke who was my crew chief, and FCV Racing for helping me with my first race. I can’t wait to get back here and do it all again soon. I hope to have our Equipo Nutricion (Team Nutrition) program up and running in the US soon so we can continue racing while helping those in need. For me the two go hand in hand.”

Jorge continues his racing endeavors this weekend at Guadalajara’s Tri-Oval where he finished 4th in his last run. Future races for Jorge in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series as well as donations by Equipo Nutricion will be announced soon!

Jorge’s debut race will be Televised (Tape Delay) on SPEED on August 5th, 2010 at 6pm.
