Justin Johnson Takes Another Step To Title

The Durham, N.C., driver inherited the lead on lap 111 when pole sitter and race leader Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C., made contact with driver Brad Cox after Cox had cut a tire. Johnson led from that point to the finish, holding off former Whelen All-American national champion Peyton Sellers by 0.225 seconds in a green-white-checker finish following the final of eight cautions.
Sellers, of Danville, finished second, with Bruce Anderson of South Boston, David Latour of Advance, N.C., and Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va., rounding out the top five.
Pulliam captured the pole with a time of 15.579 in a race that took 1 hour and 32 minutes to run.
Snow Takes Two Limited Wins
Justin Snow of Danville, VA added to his points lead by winning the first of two 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division races and being awarded a win in the second after race winner Danny Willis Jr. was disqualified following a post-race inspection.
Snow qualified on the pole with a time of 16.175 for race one and led the entire way, winning by .235 seconds over Tommy Peregoy of Clarksville.
Willis, of Cluster Springs, finished third and Matt Bowling of Ridgeway and Taylor Doggett of Ruther Glen rounded out the top five in a race marred by one caution, and one that took 18 minutes to run.
A five-car inversion for race two saw Doggett, Bowling, Willis, Peregoy and Snow start in the top five positions, with Willis taking the lead from Doggett on lap nine and leading the rest of the way.
Snow finished second in race two but moved to first following Willis’ disqualification for his sixth win of the year, with Peregoy, Bowling, Doggett and Joey Throckmorton rounding out the top-five finishers in a race that lasted 21 minutes and included three cautions.
Donnie Lacks, Darryl Lacks Split Southern Vintage Modified Wins
Donnie Lacks of Goode, Va., took home his first win of the year and Darryl Lacks his fourth in 25-lapand 20-lap Southern Vintage Modified races.
Ryan Francisco sat on the pole for race one with a time of 15.606 seconds, but Donnie Lacks passed for the lead on the opening lap and stayed ahead from there.
Francisco, of Nathalie, finished second and Darryl Lacks third in a race marred by one caution.
A four-car inversion for race two had Randy Smith start first and hold the lead until Darryl Lacks passed him on lap seven. Lacks led from there to the finish, with Donnie lacks finishing second and Smith third in a race delayed by one caution.
Milam Extends Budweiser Pure Stock Points Lead
Jarrett Milam of Ringgold, VA extended his points lead in the Budweiser Pure Stocks with his sixth win of the season on Saturday. Randy Hupp of Halifax, VA, Joe Allred III of Scottsburg,VA, Josh Barnes of Hillsborough, N.C., and Bruce Mayo of Halifax, VA rounding out the top five.
Allred won the pole with a time of 18.482 seconds, but a four-car inversion put Milam on the inside of the front row to start the race.
Milam led the entire way and won by 0.546 seconds in a race marred by five cautions.
Next Race At South Boston Speedway
Racing will return to South Boston Speedway Saturday night, August 28 with the PASS Super Late Model 150 racing program.
A 150-lap race for the stars and cars of the PASS Super Late Model circuit and twin 75-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division will headline the four-race event.
A 75-lap race for the touring Rolling Thunder Modifieds will round out the night’s action.
Advance adult general admission tickets are priced at $10 each and may be purchased until 5 p.m. Friday, August 27. Tickets at the gate on race night will be $15 each. Youth ages 7-12 will be admitted for $10. Kids ages six and under will be admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
Practice will be held from 2 p.m. until 4:10 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will start at 4:45 p.m. Fan Appreciation will be held from 5:45 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. The first race of the night will get the green flag at 7 p.m.
The rain date for the event is Sunday afternoon, August 29.
