DOVER, Del. – The “Sunoco 150” NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race mirrored the 2009 event, as Brett Moffitt won the 150-mile race while Ryan Truex celebrated his second consecutive series title. Truex locked up the series championship simply by starting the race, while Moffitt fought his way to the front to take his second career victory at Dover.

The Monster Mile chewed up several cars in the race, and brought down several drivers while in the lead. Cole Whitt wrecked early on while leading, and Matt Kobyluck bumped Danica Patrick aside to take the lead, only to cut down a tire and hit the wall two laps later.

After several late race cautions, the race required a green-white-checked finish when an accident and a blown engine brought out the caution flag as the field was embarking on lap 150. Moffitt jumped ahead on that restart and ended up winning the race by just over one second.

The Sunoco 150 marked Patrick’s first NASCAR race on the high banks of the Monster Mile. Patrick surged to a sixth-place finish, jumping up from 11th in the final 10 laps of the race. Her car featured several dented fenders by the end of the event, but she never had any control problems.

“I think all four corners have damage,” Patrick said afterwards. “I got into the back of somebody, and somebody got into the back of me before the last restart. Both sides of the car have damage. I’m sure it doesn’t look too good, but it was fun. I know I learned a lot for tomorrow’s race, and that was the point, for sure.”

Fourteen of the 27 cars in the race finished on the lead lap. Both Darrell Wallace Jr. and Whitt, who were second and fourth in the standings respectively entering the race, were knocked out early. Moffitt jumped ahead of Wallace to finish second in the final series points standings.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series takes center stage on Saturday afternoon, with qualifying at 10:35 a.m. and a 200-mile race at 3:30 p.m. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will also be on track twice on Saturday afternoon for two practice sessions at 12:30 p.m. and 1:50 p.m. ahead of Sunday’s “AAA 400” race.
