Young Corey LaJoie deserves a look
Caught in the Catchfence™For the second time in a week David took on Goliath Friday in a NASCAR K&N Pro Series race and finished second best.
Unfortunately, the role of David has been played by Corey LaJoie, the third-generation driver from the most successful racing family in Norwalk.
Last week at New Hampshire Corey, 18, finished second to Ryan Truex, the teenage brother of Cup driver Martin Truex Jr., who was in a Michael Waltrip Racing entry.
Friday at Dover, LaJoie followed Joe Gibbs Racing driver Brett Moffitt, 18, across the finish line in the final K&N East race of the year.
Truex Jr. was crowned point champion. Moffitt was second in the standings. Both drive factory backed Toyotas. The 18-year-old LaJoie, who competed in four races this season, shows up in a family-owned Ford lacking a primary sponsor.
The Concord, N.C., resident, who collected $9,870 for second, drives the lone Ford in the series. Dad, Randy, drives the transporter most of the time and arrives with a few crew members who donate their time. Grandpa Don, a five-time Danbury Racearena point champ, is never far away.
