Wausau, WI September, 30th 2010 – For the first time since 2000 Chris Wimmer returns to Rockford Speedway in Rockford, Illinois for the National Short Track Championships. “I don’t know why I decided this is the year to go back,” says Wimmer, “Brandon Selle and his family have been nice enough to let me use their second car to race at State Park Speedway all year, it’s in my shop, and I figured why not take it down to Rockford.”

Last time Wimmer was at the National Short Track Championships he received the “Faster than a Speeding Bullet” award for setting fast time in the super late model division. He then went on to record a top-five finish. “I’m sure the track has changed a bit since I was there last,” says Wimmer, “We had some good runs in this car at State Park so I’m hoping we can have one down at Rockford.”

This stands as Wimmer’s second to last race of the 2010 season, the final race coming October 10th at Octoberfest in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where Wimmer has a shot at an ASA Midwest Tour title. Wimmer currently sits two point behind ASAMT point leader Steve Carlson heading in to that final race of the year. “The last ASA race was back in August and the last SPS race was in early September,” says Wimmer, “A month is a long time to take off, especially in race, so I really wanted to get a race in before heading to La Crosse.”

Qualifying and qualifying races take place Saturday at Rockford Speedway with the 200-lap feature set for Sunday afternoon. Log on to www.rockfordspeedway.com for more information.
