I have closely watched the career of Florida teenager Johanna Long for several years as she competes in Super Late Model races around the country.

Long, who got her start in racing at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla., has ventured to the Midwest several times to compete with the Champion Racing Association series at O’Reilly Raceway Park and Winchester Speedway.

She always has proven herself to be competitive, and Long gained a lot of national exposure last weekend by winning the famed 43rd running of the Snowball Derby.

The Snowball Derby always attracts the top-name late-model drivers from throughout the country, and the list of winners is impressive. It includes Kyle Busch, Donnie Allison, Darrell Waltrip, Ted Musgrave and Butch Miller.

Long became only the second woman to win the Snowball Derby, joining Tammy Jo Kirk on the list of victors.

“It’s absolutely amazing,” Long said of the victory, “I still can’t believe it.”
