WATKINS GLEN, NY (July 2, 2010)- Dreyer & Reinbold Racing got back into the road-racing groove. Today was a matter of putting the laps in and getting the cars just right for tomorrow’s qualifying, and that is exactly what Dreyer & Reinbold Racing accomplished today in Watkins Glen, NY. It turned out to be a very successful day for DRR pilots Justin Wilson (No. 22 Z-Line Designs), and Paul Tracy (No. 24 Honda Indy Toronto) as they practiced for the ninth round of the IZOD IndyCar Series, the Camping World GP at the Glen.

Right off the bat, Wilson proved again that he’s got the speed and he’s the man to beat this weekend. In the first session it was all about dialing the car in and trying new things. The Z-Line Designs crew got the car in the ballpark and tomorrow can be all about fine-tuning. The defending Camping World GP at the Glen champion clocked the fifth quickest time in today’s practice session with a time of 1:31.8628.

It was a similar story for Wilson’s teammate, Tracy. Last week the team announced that Paul Tracy would fill-in this weekend for the injured Mike Conway. The Canadian impressed as he got behind the wheel of the DRR machine. Today was meant for Tracy to get back into the swing of things and that’s exactly what he did. Fortunately, it was the direction the team was hoping to go in, and tomorrow they can work on improving the car more. Tracy was 16th fastest with time of 1:33.2986.

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will be on track this weekend for the ninth round of the IZOD IndyCar Series in Watkins Glen, New York. The Camping World Grand Prix at the Glen will be live on ABC.

What they have to say…

Justin Wilson, No. 22 Z-Line Designs: “The Z-Line Designs car was pretty good for the first session. I think we have got the car in the ballpark. We still have some work to do to fine tune the car and get the lap times down. I think we will get there. I’m looking forward to the qualifying session tomorrow.”

Paul Tracy, No. 24 Honda Indy Toronto / Dreyer & Reinbold Racing / Dallara: “It’s been a long day, traveling from Las Vegas to Indy last night and from Indy to Watkins Glen this morning at 5:00 a.m., and then running this afternoon. Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with how the team performed and how I drove. I’m feeling similar things to Justin in the car, so we need to improve it for tomorrow. Today was a good day for me to knock some of the rust off and just get back up to speed in a race car because it has been a year, but it felt pretty good.”

About Dreyer & Reinbold Racing:

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is entering its 11th season of full-time competition in 2010, making it one of the longest-tenured teams in Indy Racing League competition. Current co-owners, Dennis Reinbold and Robbie Buhl, first teamed in full-time competition at the Walt Disney World Speedway in January of 2000. With Buhl behind the wheel, the two owners tasted victory in their debut race. The 2009 IZOD IndyCar Series season-opener on the streets of St. Petersburg marked Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s 200th series start.

DRR now has over 250 starts to tuck under its belt and has qualified a total of 27 cars for the Indianapolis 500. In its history, the team has boasted a championship list of alumni drivers. Besides Buhl, the team has run Indianapolis 500 winners, Al Unser, Jr., Buddy Lazier, and Buddy Rice, along with IndyCar Series race winner Ryan Briscoe. The team has one of the longest lines of heritage in American open-wheel racing and the Indianapolis 500 as Dennis Reinbold’s grandfather, “Pop” Dreyer, built leading roadsters that raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the 30s, 40s, and 50s.
