WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (July 5, 2010) – Team Target earned two top-10 finishes at Watkins Glen International in Round 9 of the IZOD IndyCar Series with Dario Franchitti placing third and Scott Dixon finishing eighth.

Franchitti lined-up fourth and ran in the top-five throughout most of the race. Following the final round of pit stops, Franchitti ran in second position during the final stint, but would ultimately finish the event in third.

Dixon started from the seventh position and was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop early in the race after making contact with Helio Castroneves on lap seven. After falling as far back as 21st, Dixon rallied back to the front of the field to lead 10 laps. He would remain in the top-12 and finish eighth.

NOTES

- This was Franchitti’s third podium finish at Watkins Glen, having finished third in 2005 and 2007.

- Dixon extends his record of most consecutive top-10 starts to 41.

- The race marked Dixon’s fifth top-10 at Watkins Glen.

- This is the fifth podium finish for Target Chip Ganassi Racing at Watkins Glen. Dixon delivered three consecutive victories at the Glen from 2005-2007 and a third place finish in 2009.

With the finishes, Franchitti moves to second in the championship with 295 points – just 32 points behind leader Will Power. Dixon sits third in the championship – 40 points out of the top spot.

Up next for Team Target is Round 10 of the IZOD IndyCar Series at the Honda Indy Toronto Sunday, July 18 (12:30 p.m. ET, ABC).

TCGR Quoteboard:

Scott Dixon: “The Simona (De Silvestro) incident really hurt us with her causing that yellow. I think we were looking at a fourth or fifth place finish at that point. But with everything happening it screwed our strategy. It was a tough day. Things were kind of going for us at one point and then later on they didn’t. To salvage an eighth out of it isn’t too bad. We’re still third in points and within striking distance of the championship.”

Dario Franchitti: “I was catching Will, but I used up my tires too much to catch up to him. I just overused them. Ryan [Briscoe] was getting closer to me. I was trying to make a gap to him and made a mistake and he got past me. I’m disappointed with the last lap, but it was a fun race. It’s a fun place to race.”
