Despite Struggling To Find Speed, Raphael Matos And de Ferran Dragon Racing Team Salvage Points In Kentucky
Press Release
After struggling in qualifying, Raphael Matos was hoping for a much stronger racecar, but instead found himself in survival mode and finished 16th.
“After a disappointing qualifying run yesterday, we were expecting a tough race tonight and it certainly was,” Matos said. “The result was clearly not what we hoped for, but at least we salvaged some points. The crew did a great job with pit stops. Unfortunately, we just didn’t have the speed tonight.”
By improving four spots from his starting position, Matos was able to secure 14 points to climb one spot in the IZOD IndyCar standings to 14th overall. The team will regroup and look to improve the car for the Motegi race.
“Clearly it was a disappointing night for us,” managing partner and team president Gil de Ferran said. “We struggled all weekend to find speed and unfortunately we couldn’t overcome the deficit. We’ll head home to thoroughly investigate the lack of speed and make some changes prior to the next event in Japan.
