Ups and Downs For Dreyer & Reinbold Racing at the Cafes do Brasil Indy 300
Press Release
As the green flag dropped Wilson had a clean start. The Englishman earned a 6th place starting position, but unfortunately struggled with the rear stability of the car and lost positions as a result. As the race had a number of caution periods, it was just a matter of hanging in there and that’s exactly what he did. Wilson brought the car back home safely in 21st position and finished the season sitting 11th in the championship.
Beatriz, who started 15th, like her teammate, battled with the same issues early on. That didn’t stop her as she was able to fight her way up the grid, gaining some positions. Unfortunately, that would all change on Lap 42. On the re-start Beatriz was stuck in gear. Luckily, she managed to get the car going again, but in Turn 4 she made contact with the wall and it would end her day early. Beatriz finished in 26th position.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing heads back to Indianapolis to immediately begin preparations for next year. The team will end the season with Justin Wilson in 111h place (361 points) and Ana Beatriz in 30th place (55 points), in the championship standings.
What they have to say…
Justin Wilson, No. 22 Z-Line Designs: “It was a tough day today for the Z-Line Designs team. It didn’t exactly end the way that we had hoped, but we worked hard and were able to bring the car home in one piece.”
Ana Beatriz, No. 24 Roll Coater: “I think that we did a good job and we were staying up there. The car was pretty good, it was just a little nervous in traffic, but we could keep up there. The first stint went well for us, but then the caution came out and I don’t know what happened. On the restart, I couldn’t put it into gear anymore. When the green flag came, the gears started working again. As soon as I was in the first corner, I think I hit a bump and the rear snapped on me. It’s unfortunate how it turned out, but I still learned a lot and I have to thank everyone at Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.”
About Dreyer & Reinbold Racing:
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is entering its 11th season of full-time competition in 2010, making it one of the longest-tenured teams in Indy Racing League competition. Current co-owners, Dennis Reinbold and Robbie Buhl, first teamed in full-time competition at the Walt Disney World Speedway in January of 2000. With Buhl behind the wheel, the two owners tasted victory in their debut race. The 2009 IZOD IndyCar Series season-opener on the streets of St. Petersburg marked Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s 200th series start.
DRR now has over 250 starts to tuck under its belt and has qualified a total of 27 cars for the Indianapolis 500. In its history, the team has boasted a championship list of alumni drivers. Besides Buhl, the team has run Indianapolis 500 winners, Al Unser, Jr., Buddy Lazier, and Buddy Rice, along with IndyCar Series race winner, Ryan Briscoe. The team has one of the longest lines of heritage in American open-wheel racing and the Indianapolis 500 as Dennis Reinbold’s grandfather, “Pop” Dreyer, built leading roadsters that raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the 30s, 40s, and 50s.
