Indy 500 Veteran Fisher Wins ‘Risk Taker’ Award
Press Release
The award recognized Fisher’s efforts to successfully pursue innovation while creating and building her IZOD IndyCar Series race team, Sarah Fisher Racing. Nominees for the award must have demonstrated courage in promoting purposeful change for which success was not guaranteed.
“To be a part of the Women and Hi Tech organization by winning their Risk Taker award was an honor” Fisher said. “There are many talented women who were recognized, and I am thrilled to be among them. I would also like to thank Allison Transmission for sponsoring the award. It was an eye-opening experience to meet some of the fantastic role models girls have to look up to today.”
Fisher, 30, is a nine-time starter in the Indianapolis 500. She is the fastest female driver in the 101-year history of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” with her one-lap (229.675 mph) and four-lap (229.439) qualifying speeds in 2002.
She formed Sarah Fisher Racing in 2008 to compete in the IZOD IndyCar Series. The team has fielded up to two cars at IZOD IndyCar Series events, attracting sponsorship from such major corporations as Dollar General and Service Central, the service brand for Big O Tires, NTB, Tire Kingdom and Merchant Auto Centers across the United States.
Women and Hi Tech is an organization of women and men whose goal is to attract, develop, retain, support and promote women who are interested in technology through networking, role modeling, education and professional development. Women and Hi Tech was established as a non-profit organization in July 2000 and was created to address the specific needs of women in high-tech industries in Central Indiana and to encourage more women to consider careers in technology.
