San Bernardino County, Calif. (Jan. 21,  2010) – Due to current economic strains on thousands of race fans, Auto Club Speedway will not utilize METROLINK charter train service during the West Coast Premiere of NASCAR in February.  However, tens of thousands of free parking spaces with easy access entrances await the throngs of race fans who will attend the Stater Bros. 300 NNS event on Saturday, Feb. 20 and the Auto Club 500 NSCS event on Sunday, Feb. 21 at Auto Club Speedway.

“With the current economic downturn, there is very little demand for a service, no matter how convenient, that charges between $20 and $35 per person to ride the train,” said Speedway President Gillian Zucker.  “We have plenty of on-site parking that is free and hope our fans will take full advantage.”

For those now driving, in addition to free parking and easy access entrances, Auto Club Speedway has partnered with the Inland Empire’s MRN affiliate – KFROG – to make the trip a little easier.  Fans making their way to Southern California’s Premier motorsports facility, can tune to 95.1 FM en route to the track for real time traffic updates and tips for easy entrance into the facility.

Well that stinks, I think it should have been up to the fans and not the Speedway.  I would gladly have continued to pay their fares, it beats getting stuck in traffic and being diverted in a direction that you don’t want to go when you leave the track.  Last year I went with a friend who wanted to drive on Sunday I live 22 miles from the track in Azusa and it took almost 2 hours to get there on raceday because of the stupid color parking area tickets they give you by zipcode, we had to park on the opposite side of the track from where our seats are, my mother who is handicapped and has the beginning statges of emphysema almost passed out several times before we even made it to our seats, they had no handicapped assistance for her so she had to walk all the way from turn 4 to section 33 (midway betweewn start/finish and turn one), the colored parking tickets are ridiculous!

When we left we were diverted south on Cherry that took us 15 extra miles out of our way cuz the track wouldn’t let us out to go North on Cherry to the 210frwy.  If you want to ruin attendance even further, cut the metrolink and keep the stupid colored parking tickets.

Not a brillant idea Jillian, but then putting in a Wolf Gang Puck wasn’t a bright idea either.  Do something good, rip up the track and add more banking!
