‘The King’ Richard Petty and the Paralyzed Veterans of America (Paralyzed Veterans) will host the second-annual “King’s Cup – Karting for a Cause” presented by Harris Teeter, Tuesday, May 25th at Victory Lane Karting in Charlotte, NC.

“Harris Teeter is proud to have the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of our veterans by helping the Paralyzed Veterans of America raise both awareness and funds for its members,” said Catherine Reuhl, communications specialist for Harris Teeter. “By supporting ‘Kings Cup – Karting for a Cause,’ we hope to show our gratitude to the men and women who dedicated their lives to protecting our associates and the families we serve everyday.”

The King’s Cup takes place from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and features an all-star endurance go-kart race, along with appearances by Richard Petty, Richard Petty Motorsports drivers, entertainment, and a silent auction. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America, an organization that works throughout the nation to empower America’s veterans with disabilities and their families with everything they need to live full, productive and independent lives.

“The King’s Cup is an exciting way to get the motorsports community involved in our cause, to have fun and to raise much-needed funds for America’s paralyzed veterans,” said Gene A. Crayton, national president of Paralyzed Veterans. “Richard Petty is a great champion for our members and their families and we deeply appreciate all that he and his family do for us.”

AJ Allmendinger, Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne, Brad Keselowski, Paul Menard and Elliott Sadler join Petty as honorary co-chairs of the event. Each of the NASCAR drivers are scheduled to attend and take part in the endurance karting event. Up to 30 teams will compete in the event, with the top 15 squads qualifying for the two-hour endurance feature race. Last year’s championship team, the Kurt Busch Foundation, will return to defend its title.

“Our veterans have made it possible for us to do what we love,” said Richard Petty. “To work with and be able to support an organization such as the Paralyzed Veterans is a privilege and honor for not only me but for everyone at Richard Petty Motorsports. This event is a great way to kick back and have some fun and it’s a great way to give back to those who have given so much for our country.”

A limited number of VIP tickets are available for $50, which includes a meet-and-greet session with Petty and the drivers of Richard Petty Motorsports (Allmendinger, Kahne, Menard and Sadler), food & beverage, and an event T-shirt. All tickets (including $25 general admission tickets) are available online at www.pva.org/gokart or at the event.

Sprint, Best Buy and Reynolds Consumer Products are among the sponsors of the event, which will include live music from the band “Smokin.’”

About Paralyzed Veterans of America
Sixty-four years ago, Paralyzed Veterans of America was founded by a band of spinal cord injured service members who returned home from World War II to a grateful nation, but also to a world with few solutions to the challenges they faced. These veterans from the “Greatest Generation” made a decision not just to live, but to live with dignity as contributors to society. They created an organization dedicated to veterans service, medical research and civil rights for people with disabilities. And for more than six decades, Paralyzed Veterans of America and its 34 chapters have been working to create an America where all veterans and people with disabilities, and their families, have everything they need to thrive.
