Team Chevy, 2010 NSCS Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 Race Recaps
Press ReleaseYOU ENDED UP WITH A PRETTY GOOD FINISH, THIRD PLACE
“Yeah, we’ll take it for the Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy. Not a beautiful day by any means but we got where we needed to in the end. We got some track position and we had a pretty good car when we got there. I wasn’t very good in traffic and a lot of guys were racing like a bunch of idiots out there today.”
YOU MISSED WHAT WENT ON BEHIND YOU
“No I didn’t. I saw it all day and I got to watch it. I just didn’t see the big wreck at the end but I got to watch it all day. Trust me.”
YOU GOT A TOP-FIVE THAT COMES ON THE HEELS AS YOUR VERY FIRST WIN AS A CAR OWNER AT THIS RACE
“I wish we had been a top-three car all day but you take them any way you can get them and obviously we had a decent car, and a good enough car to stay up there and run with those guys and we didn’t just stay up there on that green/white/checkered we were up there for thirty-plus laps so we had a good enough car when we got up front, we just couldn’t get there all day.”
YOU HAVE HAD THE BEST CAR BEFORE AND NOT WON
“Yeah you know about that drill so I appreciate you reminding us. There’s days like today where you are not proud of how you get there but you take it anyway because you know for every one you get like this there’s one that gets robbed from you the same way.”
NICE CALL IN THE PITS
“Yeah, that got us there. We weren’t good enough to be up there on our own. Darian (Grubb) did a good job on the pit strategy and that got us a top three.”
NOW YOU PUT ON YOUR OWNER’S HAT AND GO TO THE PRELUDE TO THE DREAM. ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT THAT NOW?
“Yeah, I’ve got a lot of work to do. I’m going there tonight to start working. I was happy for the Old Spice / Office Depot team. I’m proud of our guys for getting us a top three today.”
KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 29 SHELL/PENNZOIL CHEVROLET – Finished 4th:
WHAT HAPPENED WITH YOU AND JOEY LOGANO?
“I got into him there going into (Turn) 3 and he just races with not giving people any respect and not much room. So, we just wound up getting together. It’s unfortunate, but that’s the way it goes.”
YOU FINISHED FOURTH BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CONTACT WITH THE NO. 20
“Yeah, I just got in there and we just wound up getting together……just two cars going for the same space at one time. Just got to thank everybody on my Shell-Pennzoil Chevy, they did a great job today and we had a solid car. I kind of got stuck back there in the middle of the pack with the pit strategy but all-in-all our car was good all day.”
PRETTY GOOD POINTS DAY FOR YOU
“Yeah, I mean the car was good and that’s the way we have to be and all the tracks we have seemed struggled at in the past have been really good for us and to go to these race tracks and run in the top-five every week is what we are looking for.”
THIS HAS NOT BEEN HISTORICALLY YOUR BEST RACE TRACK HAS IT?
“No, it hadn’t been but today it was really good.”
SORRY THAT HAPPENED BECAUSE YOU HAD A NICE TOP 5 FINISH TODAY
“Yeah, we had a great day, today. The car was good all day. We got kind of caught on pit strategy there but in the end it worked out for a good top-five there.”
JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET – Finished 5th
YOU KEPT WORKING ON YOUR CAR AND IT PAID OFF
“Yeah, we had a great race car. We got up to second and was running with the No. 11 (Denny Hamlin) on pace. And then the pit strategy stuff started coming into play and I was maybe a little cautious on some of the restarts trying to take care of myself and not tear up another race car. And maybe it cost me a little bit. But in the end, great performance. We had a top car, a top speed car all day long and I brought it home in 5th.”
HOW MUCH FUN DID YOU HAVE IN THOSE CLOSING LAPS?
“It wasn’t much fun at all to be honest with you. There’s so much to lose and so much chaos on the track. It’s one thing when you’re at Bristol going 100 mph; but when you’re running 200 mph and seeing some of these moves, it was pretty crazy and I hope everybody is all right on the back stretch.”
JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET – Finished 8th
“It was a crazy day for the Target team. We had a good starting position and it became apparent pretty quick that we had some work to do on the car when the race started. The guys made adjustments all afternoon and Brian (Pattie, crew chief) made some calls on pit road that put us in position to finish in the top-10.”
