With only six races remaining until NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series postseason, some of the drivers who currently hold one of the coveted 12 Chase playoff spots may be in survival mode, hoping to gain a berth in the Chase.

One person who can offer “survival” pointers this weekend at Pocono Raceway is Tom Westman, the winner of Season 10 of CBS’ reality television series, “Survivor: Palau” along with its $1 million prize. This past season, Westman reprised his “hero” role participating in “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains.”

Now, The Hartford employee and Long Island native will put his skills to the test in an attempt to survive his latest challenge – “Survivor: Pocono” – serving as an honorary pit crew member of The Hartford No. 33 Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Chevrolet and driver Clint Bowyer, who is gunning for one of the last remaining playoff spots and currently sits in the 12th and final position in the points standings.

Westman, 46, a former 20-year FDNY Lieutenant, is currently employed by The Hartford as an account executive in New York City. In addition to his role with the No. 33 pit crew team and offering any survival advice to the drivers (only if asked), he’s rooting on five individuals who earlier this week were named national finalists in The Hartford 200, a program celebrating America’s personal stories from the road.

“It’s a great time to be an employee of The Hartford, the company just celebrated its 200th anniversary,” said Westman. “I am thrilled to be here today with The Hartford cheering on our team and the finalists in The Hartford 200 program. I know what it is like to depend on votes to win, so I want to encourage fans to support these finalists.”

Now through Aug. 13, fans can vote for their favorite story at www.TheHartford200.com. The best one will win an incredible grand prize that includes a new Chevy Equinox, a hometown visit from Bowyer, a VIP race experience and being celebrated in a special print advertisement in their hometown.

The Hartford is the primary sponsor of Bowyer’s No. 33 race car for two additional Sprint Cup Series races this season, including this weekend and at Auto Club Speedway in California (Oct. 1), as well as associate sponsor for the remaining 2010 events. The Hartford is also an associate sponsor of RCR teammate Jeff Burton in the Sprint Cup Series.
