Pocono, Penn. (August 2, 2010) – After a couple of tough weeks that saw the Whitney Motorsports team forced to load up and head for home after qualifying, J.J Yeley bounced back strong in qualifying for the Sunoco Red Cross 500 at Pocono Raceway. Yeley qualified the No. 46 Whitney Motorsports Dodge 30th out of the 45 cars that took time in qualifying and was the fastest of the ten drivers fighting for the eight open positions in the 43-car starting field.

“It’s a great way to come back after the disappointments we had at Chicago and Indianapolis,” Yeley said. “We’re trying to build a team that is out there trying to break into the top twenty every week. It’s a tough challenge and weeks like we had last week can be very discouraging, but we put that out of our minds and came here ready to get the job done.”

In the race, Yeley finished 38th after retiring due to a vibration. However, he did manage to lead the race during the event’s first caution before he retired, the second time this season the No. 46 Dodge has been up front.

“It’s always nice when you can get up front and lead a Cup race, even if it’s under caution,” Yeley said. “We stayed out under that first caution and led a lap and picked up five points. We aren’t in the running for the championship but we’re trying to get as high up in the owner’s standings as we can get and every point helps.”

Simply making the race was a big boost to Yeley and the team. Yeley qualified for eight consecutive races before missing the field at Chicago and Indianapolis.

“The past is the past, we can’t change anything we did other than learn from our mistakes and grow from here,” Yeley said. “What makes great teams great is that they learn from every experience they have, not just the positive ones but especially the negative ones. We would have much rather been in the race at Chicago and Indianapolis, but we’ll take what we learned there and use that to make us a better team down the road.”

Yeley and the team head to Watkins Glen International next Sunday. Yeley is ready for a return to road racing after a solid showing at Infineon Raceway in June.

The Heluva Good Sour Cream Dips at the Glen is scheduled for Sunday August 8. The second and final road course race of the 2010 season is scheduled for a 1 P.M. Eastern time green flag and the race will be televised live on ESPN. It can also be heard nationwide on affiliates of the MRN Radio network and on Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128 (XM104).
