Mooresville, NC, (August 26, 2010), The Department of Veterans Affairs Post-9/11 GI Bill will be a partner on the No. 71 Post-911 GI Bill/TRG Motorsports Chevrolet Impala SS for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Air Guard 400 to be run at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday, September 11.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001.  Approved training under the Post-9/11 GI Bill includes graduate and undergraduate degrees as well as vocational/technical training.

Driver Landon Cassill will carry extra motivation into the Air Guard 400 in three weeks.

“The Post-9/11 GI Bill has had a positive impact on a lot of people,” Cassill said.  “I have a good friend who served in the military and he is currently using the GI Bill to get his education.  In my outreach to family members to see if anyone was using the GI Bill, I actually educated a cousin who did not know he was eligible and is now looking into the benefits that he is entitled to.  I can see how the GI Bill can affect someone’s life as it has for my friend.  I am looking forward to helping get the word out and having a great run with the Post-9/11 GI Bill colors on our car at Richmond.”

TRG Motorsports team principal, Kevin Buckler, is proud to be associated with the Veterans Affairs Post-9/11 GI Bill and their introduction into NASCAR Sprint Cup Racing.  The GI Bill has had a personal impact on his family.

“The Post-9/11 GI Bill is a great program to help those that have served in the armed services navigate their future and has had a direct impact on my life,” Buckler said.  “My father and uncle were in World War II.  My uncle was wounded in combat, received the Purple Heart and received a full education under the GI Bill.  My father was a Navy medic, received his under grad degree, got graduate assistance as well as housing for himself and my mother as he went on to become a Medical Doctor.  By carrying the Post-9/11 GI Bill colors on our NASCAR Sprint Cup car at Richmond we will help spread the word to our nation’s Veterans and service members about the benefits of this great program. The Post-9/11 GI Bill will help a lot of people who have helped us to live our lives free every day.  I can’t wait to see the car hit the track in three weeks.”

The Air Guard 400 from Richmond International Raceway will be televised live on ABC starting at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 11.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill, passed by Congress in 2008, provides financial support for education and housing to veteran service men and women, and allows every eligible veteran, service member, reservist and National Guard member an opportunity to receive undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as vocational and technical training. The program includes payments for tuition and fees; housing allowance; a books and supplies stipend; tutorial assistance; licensing and certification test reimbursement; and the Yellow Ribbon Program, a plan which allows private colleges the ability to match government funds.

The Post-9/11 GI BILL also offers eligible service members the opportunity to transfer their benefits to dependents. Since 2009, the Veteran’s Administration has issued Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to nearly 250,000 individuals and $1.2 billion in education benefits have been paid to veteran students. 1. why don’t we focus first on getting our vets paid, then maybe spend time and money on advertising. When this program first started we didn’t get paid for 3 months, the next semester I didn’t get paid for 2 months, fast froward to this semester, a month and a half has passed and no money. In a week, if still no payment, I will be homeless, so forgive me if I don’t see the value in a Post 9/11 GI Bill NASCAR.
