Dodge Motorsports, 2010 NSCS Emory Healthcare 500 Race Recaps
Press Release
“I don’t know what it was all about tonight, whether it was perseverance, us making adjustments or dumb luck, we just missed our setup big, but came home with a sixth-place finish. The most important thing is that we locked our Miller Lite Dodge into the Chase and that’s what our team needed from tonight. It’s 25 races of hard, long work and now we can enjoy a well-deserved pat on the back and enjoy Richmond. We’ve got to turn some things around to see what we have against these guys if we’re going to run for the title.”
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR PIT STRATEGY LATE IN THE RACE? “We only had two laps on our tires and the other competitors had two cycles which made it like six laps. So, it made sense for us to stay out. It was the fastest that the car was all night. We’re missing something aero wise. I’m not sure what was going on tonight.”
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO THIS TEAM TO MAKE THE CHASE? “You never can give up. I’m proud of all my guys and everyone back at Penske. It’s great for Miller Lite and Dodge and all of our sponsors. A lot of hard work goes into this team and to finally know that we solidified a place in the Chase is very rewarding.”
WHAT WILL BE THE APPROACH FOR RICHMOND NEXT WEEKEND? “Go for the win and grab those bonus points. We know that we’re locked in, so now we just try some things on the car to see if it goes fast and put ourselves in the position to get those 10 extra points for a race win.”
STEVE ADDINGTON (Crew Chief, No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger)
“This race has been one of the toughest of my life. It caught us by surprise from where we were in happy hour and where we were at the start of the race. It had us scratching our heads. We changed a lot of stuff during the race. I’m proud of everybody on this Miller Lite Dodge team for hanging in there, especially that guys that sits behind that steering wheel because he could have thrown in the towel as bad as we were. I’m really proud of how everyone responded. I want to thank Kurt personally and the guys for hanging in there to get a finish like that. It’s amazing that somebody can hang in there and put up with what we put him through today. If we had qualified better, maybe we wouldn’t have had such a struggle. We were way off to start the race. The way this started, we’ll take sixth.”
BRAD KESELOWSKI (No. 12 Penske Racing Dodge Charger)
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR NIGHT? “I thought that we were going to be a little better than we were. We just missed it a little bit tonight with our Penske Dodge. When the track went to night time, our car just didn’t get faster like I thought it would. Congratulations to Kurt and the 2 team for making the Chase. A well deserved effort by all those guys on that team.”
SAM HORNISH Jr. (N0. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charge)
“It was a tough night for the Mobil 1 Dodge. We started off way too loose and could never get the car tightened up enough to get the right balance that we needed to be fast. Tire wear is so critical here that when your car isn’t balanced just right, you have your hands full all night trying to find speed. Congratulations to the Kurt and the 2 team for making the Chase. They battled all night and got a well-deserved top 10 and a spot into the playoffs.”
