Looking for ‘Best of Both Worlds’ in A&W Car

Statesville, N.C. (September 28, 2010) - Dave Blaney returns to the cockpit of the No. 38 A&W All American Food Ford at Kansas Speedway this week, driving the Front Row Motorsports car for the second time this season. He and the A&W team look to qualify the No. 38 Fusion on speed for Sunday’s Price Chopper 400. Always a strong qualifier, Blaney successfully put the same car in the race at Atlanta Motor Speedway earlier this month in his first run with Front Row.

Blaney goes to Kansas with confidence, with one top-10 and two top-15 finishes in his Sprint Cup Series career at the 1.5-mile oval.

Comments from A&W All American Food Ford team driver Dave Blaney on Kansas Speedway:

“I think we can be successful in Kansas. It’s kind of an in-between track – not really high speeds like maybe an Atlanta, Texas or Charlotte, but big and sweeping at the same time. So you have to have the best of both worlds, I guess. You need some speed but you have to handle really well, too.

“I’ve had some pretty good runs at the mile-and-a-half tracks. I don’t really like or dislike other tracks any more or less. I like them all. But, yeah, if I’ve had any success, a little bit more of it has been on that type of racetrack. I don’t really know why. But it does help you go into a place with a little more confidence knowing you’ve run well there in the past.

“I ran my first race with Front Row a few weeks ago in Atlanta, and considering it was our first time working together, we did OK. We finished 24th. So now that we’ve had the chance to work some of the kinks out and see what works well for me and what I like in my car, I think we can definitely make more progress.

“I think we have the opportunity to run some good races and earn some points for that ’38′ car. I know Front Row has the goal of getting that car back up into the top 35 in owner points, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to come over here and try to help them do that. They’ve got a good group of hard-working guys here and I know they’re putting all they can into it. I’m going to do my best to give them some good runs.

“It’s tough, I know. Everyone around that top-35 mark is clawing to get in there and stay in there. Or, if you’re in there, to not fall out. It’s a real magic number as far as next season goes and what you can do in the off-season to get ready for next year. There’s a whole different competition going on within that group of cars back there.”
