Driver Is Strong at Similar Mile-and-a-Half’s

Statesville, N.C. (September 28, 2010) - Looking at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule, Travis Kvapil is happy to see another mile-and-a-half tri-oval come up. The driver of the No. 34 Long John Silver’s Ford looks forward to racing at Kansas Speedway this weekend after performing well at similar tracks so far this season.

This weekend’s Price Chopper 400 will be Kvapil’s fourth start at the track in Kansas City, Kan. His best career finish there is 19th.

“I’m excited to go to Kansas. It’s a medium-banked, mile-and-a-half track. I feel like some of the tracks where we’ve had our strongest set-ups are similar to Kansas – like Michigan, Charlotte and Texas. We’ve made some pretty good progress on our cars over the last few months and we can apply a lot of that to a track like Kansas. Even at Las Vegas, where we ran earlier in the season, we had a good car. So, for that type of track, I have a lot of confidence going there. I feel like we can have pretty good speed and we can have a pretty good performance there.

“I don’t have a ton of experience at Kansas. I think I’ve only run there maybe three times. But, Kansas is the type of place, like I said, where you can apply what you know from similar tracks. Some people call them ‘cookie-cutter tracks’ because they’re so similar. I wouldn’t call them identical – they each have their own individual characteristics that you have to adapt to. But, you can be successful with a similar set-up from track to track. You can come off the truck with a base set-up, knowing you’ve got a good car to start with, and just work on it from there.

“We’re looking to bounce back from Dover (Del.). We had a shock break on us early in the race, and once that happened, it was kind of hard to make a comeback. That was disappointing for us because the team worked really hard on making our Long John Silver’s Ford better that whole weekend. We just had something fluky happen. So, we’re eager to get back on track and have a good run.”
