Organization looks to add to strong history at the 1-5 mile ‘Beast”

CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 15, 2010) – Roush Fenway moves into this weekend’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway looking to rebound from one the toughest outings in recent history for the organization. Fortunately the team will have the luxury of doing so at one of its strongest tracks on the circuit. The 77,748 miles covered in the Sprint Cup Series by Roush Fenway are the most of any track. Roush Fenway has posted Cup wins at Charlotte on seven different occasions, while turning in 37 top fives, 62 top 10s and two poles in 158 starts.

“Last week was very frustrating,” said Carl Edwards, who qualified second for tomorrow night’s race. “I feel like our team has performed at a very high level for a few months now and then last week all four of us had trouble, so it was a very frustrating week. All we can do is run these next six races as hard as we can and be the team that we know we can be and, hopefully, we’ll come out in a better position that we are right now.

“We just came off of a week where we felt like we got kicked in the stomach and we’ve got to keep digging and keep going hard,” said Edwards. “I think those are the tough times.  It would sure be nice to go out and lead the most laps and win this race and get rolling, but we’ll have to wait and see how it goes.”

All-in-all Roush Fenway has won 17 times in NASCAR competition at Charlotte and a win in tomorrow night’s 500-mile event might be just what the doctor ordered, after all four of Roush Fenway’s cars finished outside the top 29 last weekend in California. The organization remains optimistic.

“I think we’re still on the upswing,” said Greg Biffle who won two weeks ago in Kansas. “Our mile-and-a-half program seems to be good and pretty strong. It has been up and down, but we still feel like we’re on the positive side of the momentum.”

“I think toward the two-thirds mark of the year we started running a little bit better as a group,” added Matt Kenseth. “Greg’s been able to win a couple races and Carl has been pretty close a few times and we’ve been running a little better too, so we’re hoping we can continue that through the last six weeks and carry it into next season, and figure out some things that will make us better and hopefully get better over the off-season as well.”

The organization will however look for its first Sprint Cup win at Charlotte since May of 2002, when Mark Martin drove the No. 6 car a win in the Coca-Cola 600. Tomorrow night’s race is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be televised live by ABC.
