Press Release
Martinsville Speedway
Kroger 250
March 27, 2010
- Peters’ Returns to His Home Track… Timothy Peters will be able to sleep in his own bed during this race weekend. The Danville, VA resident lives just 20 miles from the famed Martinsville Speedway. In part because of its close proximity, and in part because of his success on the paperclip shaped short track over the years, Martinsville is Peters’ favorite race track. Last fall Peters made some personal history by earning his first NASCAR win in front of the hometown crowd. He returns this weekend with the hope of back to back celebrations in Victory Lane.
- Peters at Martinsville…There is no other track on the Camping World Truck Series schedule where Timothy Peters has more experience than Martinsville Speedway. The Kroger 250 will mark Peters’ ninth start on the .526-mile oval. In eight previous events, he started inside the top-10 five times and earned four top-10 finishes, including his win in October 2009. Peters knows how to lead the way at Martinsville; in two of those races, he led 130 laps combined.
- Hensley Right At Home In Martinsville…Crew chief, Jeff Hensley calls Martinsville, Virginia his home town as well. Living in a town just five miles from the track, Hensley commutes to the Red Horse Racing shop in Mooresville, NC on week days. The commute will be shorter this week with the series racing just minutes from home. Hensley has seen his own share of success at Martinsville Speedway over the years. He has two Truck Series wins and two Nationwide Series wins already under his belt but admits it never hurts to have one more.
- Tight Points Battle Early In The Season…. Heading into Martinsville, Peters sits second in the Camping World Truck Series point standings. Leading the points after Daytona, Peters dropped just one spot to second after Atlanta. He now sits just four points behind the leader and has a margin of 41 points between himself and the third place driver.
- Strutmasters Back For Martinsville… Strutmasters.com adorned the hood last fall when Peters took the #17 to Victory Lane at Martinsville Speedway and they are back on board for the Kroger 250 this weekend. Strutmasters was born in owner Chip Lofton’s converted dairy barn in 1999. It provides consumers an affordable alternative to expensive and problematic air ride suspension systems found on luxury vehicles. The company ships suspension conversion kits to thousands of auto repair shops, parts stores and dealers across North America. Retail customers can order by visiting the Strutmasters.com website.
- Crescent Tools On Board… The Crescent Tools logo will adorn the #17 Toyota Tundra as an associate sponsor for the entire 2010 season. The Crescent brand product line now consists not only of adjustable wrenches, but also a wide selection of other tools. These include, several styles of pliers, ratcheting wrenches, screwdrivers, and tool sets. One of the most recent examples of Crescent innovation is the new RapidSlide™ adjustable wrench.
Timothy Peters on racing at Martinsville Speedway “I love racing at Martinsville. Coming off a win there in the fall, we are excited to get back and see if we can repeat. We tested at the Motor Mile and feel really good about what we learned there. I will be piloting the same truck I had here in the fall and feel good about our chances this weekend.”
Crew Chief Jeff Hensley on Martinsville Speedway “The race at your home track is always one you want to win. Timothy is really good here and after testing this truck a couple times, I’m confident we will have a strong truck for the race. I’ve had wins at Martinsville before but I would love to get our #17 Tundra back in Victory Lane and keep the momentum we started at the first race rolling throughout the season.”
Equipment Information Timothy Peters will compete with chassis #137 in the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway. This is the same chassis Peters was driving when he earned his first career win at Martinsville last fall.
