STATESVILLE, N.C. (May 17, 2010) – Angie Skinner joined NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers Todd Bodine, Matt Crafton and Johnny Sauter to visit the Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City on Friday, April 30th. The group visited families staying at the Kansas City location and delivered supplies for a playground being built by The NASCAR Foundation on the seventh-annual NASCAR Day, May 21, 2010. In addition to spending time getting to know the families and hearing their stories, Skinner gave International Truck and Exide Battery hats to the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

“I really enjoyed being invited by The NASCAR Foundation to learn more about the Kansas City Ronald McDonald house and all of the NASCAR Day activities,” said Skinner. It’s always good for Mike and me to go to these events and do these activities to get ideas for our own charity, “The Skinner Round-Up.” It doesn’t matter how many fundraising events we host, we can always learn something from the executive directors of the other charities.

“I never realized how much the Ronald McDonald houses relies on the donations from the collection containers in McDonalds. The collection jars are the main source of fundraising for most of the homes, and it’s an easy way for people to make an impact on their community. The houses are amazing, and it’s great that they are there for anyone who needs a place to stay regardless of their social class.”

The NASCAR Foundation, Sprint, Inc. and Turner Construction broke ground last month for a brand new state-of-the-art playground at the Ronald McDonald House. The playground is one of five community service projects across the country being hosted by The NASCAR Foundation to celebrate NASCAR Day. A group of volunteers built the playground over a period of five days, May 12-16. The area provides the families staying at the Kansas City Ronald McDonald House a place to relax and rejuvenate their spirits.

The Skinners have been major supporters of The NASCAR Foundation and NASCAR Day. The pair not only appeared in the 2010 NASCAR Day commercial, but the driver of the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Tundra also provided the voiceover. The commercial promotes the NASCAR Day pin, which is a pin that anyone can purchase for just $5 to help support NASCAR Day. Pins are sold nationwide at NASCAR events, as well as at Office Depot and Bass Pro Shops locations across the country, Lowes Foods locations in North and South Carolina, and online at NASCAR.com.
