ECR Wins First NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race at Pocono
Press Release“Five top-10 finishes in top three series at Pocono, Iowa”
Elliott Sadler, driving the No. 2 Grand Touring Vodka Chevrolet for Kevin Harvick Incorporated, qualified on the pole for the Pocono Mountains 125 and led 25 of the first 37 laps. He retook the lead on the first of two green-white-checkered flag restarts, on lap 50, and then held on through the second restart to take the checkered flag on lap 55 with a 0.445-of-a-second winning margin. Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon qualified fourth and finished seventh in the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet and KHI’s Ron Hornaday, who was involved in an accident on the second restart, finished 29th.
In the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pocono 500, RCR’s Kevin Harvick (No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet) and Jeff Burton (No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet) finished fourth and eighth, respectively. RCR’s Clint Bowyer finished 15th after his No. 33 The Hartford Chevrolet sustained damage during a late-race incident. Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing’s Juan Pablo Montoya (No. 42 Target Chevrolet) and Jamie McMurray (No. 1 Axe Twist Chevrolet) finished 16th and 22nd, respectively. Bobby Labonte finished 22nd in The Racer’s Group No. 71 TaxSlayer Chevrolet and Casey Mears finished 39th in the No. 36 Tommy Baldwin Racing Chevrolet.
Harvick qualified his KHI No. 33 Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches Chevrolet on the outside of the front row for the NASCAR Nationwide Series U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. He led once for 20 laps and finished in the runner-up position to race winner Kyle Busch.
“Things are going very well at ECR right now,” said Rick Mann, head engine builder. “The result of the work everyone at the shop is putting is definitely showing up on the race track. What’s really cool is something that people may not realize – with things going well, we’re working really hard to stay on top. Everybody is shooting at us now so our effort is to keep moving forward. It’s really nice when you’re on top because you can make changes and be very methodical when you test and, actually, make gains easier than when you’re struggling.
“Winning the first Truck Series race at Pocono is further proof that ECR is in pretty good shape across the board. Congratulations to Elliott Sadler and KHI on the win. We made good power all weekend and were rewarded with the victory. And, as they say, it’s nice to have your race car handle down the straightaway.”
