The 27-hole public course yielded to some very good golf as many teams in the inaugural Onion Slice Open scramble format shot 56, with the winning team led by Mike Skinner shooting a 19 under par 53.
The golf event was the largest fundraising golf tournament in Blue Ridge Trail history and more than $68,000 in proceeds will be invested in services to help pediatric patients at the Allied Services John Heinz Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine who are treated for brain injuries and other neurological impairments.
More information on the charity can be found at www.alliedservices.org
More than $11,000 was raised at the post-golf auction which included autographed sports memorabilia. The top item — a racing helmet autographed by dozens of NASCAR stars — fetched $6,000 for the charity.
NASCAR stars Ron Hornaday, Mike Skinner, Brian Scott, Stacy Compton, Austin Dillion, Aric Almirola and two dozen others joined Todd Bodine and many friends and family from throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania at the golf event to welcome back to Pocono for the 2010 Camping World Truck Series race.
