Monday
Step in the Right Direction for Donny Lia at Nashville Superspeedway
Press Release
Lia posted a best lap of 31.62 seconds at just under 152 mph in the afternoon qualifying session giving him the eighteenth starting position for the 200-mile race behind Pole sitter Todd Bodine.
The No 21 SS Green Light Racing Chevy was good at the start of the race with Donny moving up to fifteenth when the first caution flew on lap four of the 150-lap race. Donny ran in the top-fifteen until the races second caution on lap twenty when he came to the attention for the SS Green Light team for tires and adjustments.
Following the caution Lia had spirited side-by-side battles with former series champion Mike Skinner, David Starr and several others settling into the fourteenth place on lap fifty. Leader Timothy Peters was on a torrid pace and put the No. 21 a lap down on lap sixty just before the leaders came to pit road for tires and fuel. Donny and several others were able to stay on the track through the green flag stops when the caution came out on lap sixty-six leaving only five trucks on the lead lap.
No less than ten competitors took advantage of NASCAR’s waive around rule and restarted behind the five lead-lap trucks. Donny held ground in the top-five for several laps before the faster trucks made their way through the field. Donny raced hard but smart in the middle stages of the race settling into the twelfth position behind eventual winner Todd Bodine where he would run the final sixty laps of the race earning his third lead-lap finish of the season.

“A solid finish is what this team needed,” Lia said. “I always want more, but tonight as a good step in the right direction. I thought we had some momentum after Michigan and then we had some bad luck after that. This is a good way to work our way back. Hopefully we can continue moving forward next week at Darlington.”
Even though he has only started just ten of the fourteen races in 2010, the twelfth place finish moved Donny into twentieth in the NCWTS Drivers Points Championship.
The next race for Donny Lia and the SS Green Light team is the “Too Tough to Tame 200” at the Darlington Speedway on Saturday, August 14th.
