Shelby Howard, 2010 NCWTS enjoyillinois.com 225 Race Preview
Press Release
NUMBER TWO IN THE SECOND CITY: This weekend will be Howard’s second start of the season at Chicagoland Speedway. Howard competed at the track in the July Nationwide Series race for ML Motorsports, scoring a 20th-place finish after starting 10th.
LOOKING FOR NUMBER ONE: Although Shelby Howard has three wins in the ARCA Racing Series (all in 2003), he has yet to find his way to victory lane in NASCAR’s top-three series. Howard hopes to take the checkered flag for the first time this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway. In his 42 Nationwide Series starts and 34 Truck Series starts, Howard’s best NASCAR finish of fifth came at O’Reilly Raceway Park (ORP) in 2008.
WELCOME HOME BUTCH: Butch Hylton, crew chief for the No. 2 Foretravel Motorcoach Chevrolet, calls Chicagoland Speedway home. Hylton began his racing career in his nearby hometown of Rockford, Illinois, balancing his work as a diesel engine rebuild specialist, with his part-time work as a mechanic for late model and super late model teams.
THOUGHTS FROM THE DRIVER: Shelby Howard
What are your thoughts going into the race at Chicagoland Speedway?
“I’m excited about going back to Chicagoland Speedway, since I’ve already been there once this year in the Nationwide car. I’m looking forward to my second opportunity to work with the group at KHI. We should be better after the initial run at ORP. I’m excited for my first chance to race a mile-and-a-half track with the team. The whole package should come together, as KHI has the best program in the Truck Series.”
PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Elliott Sadler demonstrated that he had a truck that could contend for the win last Wednesday night at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, but late-race contact with a competitor led to a night-ending wreck with 14 laps remaining in the 200-lap event. With body damage and destroyed front brakes, the No. 2 Chevrolet Silverado was relegated to a 26th-place finish in a caution-filled race at “the world’s fastest half mile.”
CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 2 team will utilize chassis No. 044 this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway. The No. 044 chassis has been used twice by Ron Hornaday this season, most recently at Michigan International Speedway where he scored a fourth-place finish after starting second. The chassis has not been utilized by the No. 2 team in 2010.
