David Starr Fights for Fifteenth at Loudon
Press Release
The Jason Miller led SS Green Light team worked hard to find speed Friday’s practice sessions, and it looked like it paid-off during Saturday morning’s multi-truck qualifying session when David lapped the Zachry No. 81 with a lap of 29.97 seconds on the flat one-mile track at over 127 mph.
David settled into a top-fifteen position for the first third of the race while Cup regulars Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick were running away from the field and put Jason a lap down on lap forty-eight.
David’s first exciting moment came on lap seventy-two when teammate Jason White spun the GunBroker.com No.23 attempting to pass Starr while the two were racing side-by-side in the top-fifteen. David was able to avoid Whites spinning truck continued on racing. White was fortunate to not make contact with any other trucks.
Just fourteen laps later David was spun after slight contact with point leader Todd Bodine prompting David to check-up and was then hit in the left rear by Donny Lia causing the Zachry No. 81 to spin making contact with the outside wall which was quickly repaired by the SS Green Light crew during the ensuing caution.
David raced hard from the tail of the trucks one lap down over the next eighty laps to finally earn the “Lucky Dog” on lap 158 to get back on the lead-lap. The field would be bunched again just seven laps from the finish for a spin involving Ron Hornaday and the trucks would line-up for one more re-start and more fireworks on-track.
The last lap would provide more excitement for David as he attempted to make a move on the inside to take the eleventh place when two trucks got together causing Justin Lofton to hit David’s Zachry Toyota sending David spinning again; this time making significant contact with the outside wall. David would be credited with fifteenth place, the last truck running on the lead lap.
Kyle Busch led 156 of the 175 laps to win his fifth NCWTS race of the 2010 season.
Starr’s remains ninth in the NCWTS point standings behind leader Todd Bodine, one position ahead of teammate Jason White.
The next race for David Starr and the SS Green Light team is the Smiths 350 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 25th.
