Las Vegas, NV – September 25, 2010. David Starr and the SS Green Light Racing team had a very long day in the Las Vegas heat fighting an ill-handling racetruck during the Smith’s Food & Drug Stores 350 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the mile and one half Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The effort would pay off, as Starr would come from the tail of the thirty-six-truck field to finish twelfth in the 146-lap event.

Starr qualified the ASI Limited/Stratosphere No. 81 Toyota twenty-ninth in the afternoon multi-truck qualifying session with a lap of 31.92 seconds at just over 171 mph but was forced to start at the rear of the field after the SS Green Light team had to make repairs to the front spring insert to David’s Toyota before the start of the Smiths 350.

David began working his way toward the front of the field from the drop of the green flag moving up to twenty-sixth when the first caution flew on lap thirteen. The Jason Miller-led crew would make several adjustments to help improve the handling of Starr’s Toyota.

Starr had a close call on lap twenty-three when several trucks spun directly in front of him but was able to avoid any contact. David restarted twenty-first after the caution and continued to work his way toward the top-fifteen.

Each stop the SS Green Light team made adjustments and David continued to move up in the running order reaching twelfth place on lap seventy-five and up to eleventh on lap ninety. During a caution for debris, Miller left Starr on the track to lead one lap and earn five valuable bonus points, he would restart seventeenth.

In just five laps, David would move back into the top-fifteen. David would battle side-by side with teammate Jason White for the thirteenth spot eventually taking the position. Following a caution on lap 115, David would go three wide to try to move into the top-ten, but was not successful and fell back to the twelfth spot before regaining one position back to eleventh.

David and Ron Hornaday Jr. would battle late in the race for the eleventh spot with the former champ dropping Starr’s ASI Limited / Stratosphere No. 81 to twelfth at the checkers.

For his charge from the back, David made sixty-six passes, the most of any driver and earned the O’Reilly Auto Parts Position Improvement Award by moving up seventeen places in the finishing order.

Miller is pleased with the effort from his driver and team. “We didn’t have a great truck early, we struggled in the bumps and the truck bottoming out. Every caution we worked on the truck and we made a lot of changes to improve the handling and we had the truck pretty solid at the end of the race.”

“Unfortunately, the wholesale adjustments took extra time that hurt our track position. It’s still pretty hard to pass when you’re back in traffic,” he added. “We could have used one more restart to help us get into the top-ten. David ran his fastest lap on lap 122.”

“Overall I think it was a good weekend with lots of improvements and we’ll have a solid baseline when we take this truck to Texas later in the year.”

With five races left in the 2010 campaign, Starr remains ninth in the NCWTS point standings behind leader Todd Bodine.

David Starr and the SS Green Light team have several weeks off before the Kroger 200 at the Martinsville Speedway on Saturday, October 23rd.
